I just received my new grille (EAG Grille) that has 3 small amber LED lights. I'd like the lights to be on all the time while I'm in the truck (day and night). I think my best bet is to tap into DRLs. I do not want a manual switch.

I have not been able to find a good write up or tutorial (yes, I used Search) Anyone have a suggestion?

I am an absolute beginner at this kind of stuff. Thanks in advance.

Don't the DRLs go off when the regular lights are on. Like at night? I mean D does stand for daytime, right?

I dunno. I have them, but never use them, so I've never checked the circuit to see if it's hot when the regular lights are on.

Which by the way, is where you'd start, using your DVM. Find the DRL leg, and see if it stays hot when the other lights are turned on.

I'm pretty sure that the LED DRL stays on but they're at half brightness when the head lights are on.

The DRLs stay on even at night while the main headlights are one, although it does appear to be dimmer than during the day.

Use an add a fuse on engine 2 spot in the driver’s side foot well fuse box. There’s a small grommet in the engine bay you can use to get our wire there. The drl fuse has a relay so i’d skip it.

Will a 15 AMp fuse with 16 Guage wire do the job?

Yes. I used 16guage wire, a 7.5a fuse and the add a fuse. This is powering three amber leds on my grill.

Ok so I had my coworker help me wire the new amber LEDs for the grille. He has an electrical engineering degree and does a lot of work in his own rig, so I trust him. He said that no fuse or relay is needed. Simply tap into an existing fuse that has power when you power the truck. Here are pics of: the included wiring harness, key connect points (see green arrow) and end product.

    Hope this helps others.

Just a note, I created a separate thread for this because wiring amber LEDs seems universal, and not necessarily specific to this grille. I know there are grille specific threads, which I will cross reference.

This helped perfectly. I just did the same exact thing as the picture.
    Thanks for the help!

Yes. That’s how I wired mine. There is a good YouTube video showing how to connect

go on when I turn on truck. go off with either a) 2 clicks on the fob or b) one click and then like 30 seconds later along with other exterior lights.

    works perfect.

You’re wired into the fuel injectors. I did this too as it’s the always on fuse. You’re gonna notice a drop in mpg. I went from 340miles a tank down to 290. I ended up wiring to the tail lights on the driver side fuse box so they still are always on.

..also for someone with an electrical engineering degree this is the most unprofessional way to do this.

hmmm, I did not experience any drop in MPGs. You lost 50 m/tank because of 3 tiny LEDs? are you wiring anything else up?

if it's not too much of a hassle, can you post a pic of the exact location of your wiring set up? (similar to my pics with green arrows).
