It sounds like your employer is trying to document cause for termination.

Refer to your company policy as far as what is grounds for termination.

MTGIRL WROTE THIS AND i AGREE :
from past experience...document everything. Start writing out dates/events. Don't exaggerate, just get the main points across. Make sure to note the "warnings" that you received before as well as events that went unnoticed - you mentioned missing (assuming stolen) tools. Did they do anything about that situation? Or just try to brush it away? In the end don't try to point fingers at anyone just let it be known that people have been unprofessional across the board.

Also, GET an attorny!!! This is your job and livlyhhood...don,t screw around get and attorny, and if they fire you, sue them, sue them so hard they will want to bring you back.

Another option, tell them you are an alcholic, and you are seeking help. If you never go to work drunk already, there will not be a problem for you, but once you tell them, they are screwed and can't fire you...unless of course you fall off the wagon and come in drunk. But talk to an attorny first and quick about that.!!!

I used to critique resumes in college - for graduates - always happy to give out a few pointers if needed.

For now keep things quiet at work, do what you need to keep the bossman happy and don't rock the boat. Remind everyone you work with that you are efficient, reliable, etc. Only if its true though!;)

Wow, that blows. Sorry to hear it. As mentioned above it sounds like they are trying to document everything before showing you the door. I would suggest being on your best behavior and start quietly applying for new jobs.

I wouldn't worry about finding another golf cart mechanic job...you have a skill set that you have developed. Obviously it is related to golf carts, but don't get hung up on that fact, look past that at the specific skills. It sounds like you could work in many different fields. Literally anything that has to do with maintenance of a mechanical nature. Repairing conveyors, assembling wind turbines, servicing fork lifts, etc. In your area there is quite a bit of manufacturing...you might be able to get into a maintenance department for a machine shop. I am trying to make the point that you have skills and if you do your resume and handle the interview correctly there are tons of jobs out there for your background.

If it's not union then your pretty much screwed. If they want you gone, then your gone. They don't need concrete evidence hat it was your shifty attitude. If your late once, if you mess up once, if you throw up attitude once, if you do anything that they don't like, it's enough for them to call you a liability to their company and show you the door. My last job there was no turning back after hey black flagged me for I don't know what, but they had it out for me and I knew the end was in sight and here was nothing I could do about it. Now that Im a conductor for UPRR, it's crazy what I can do and they can't do anything to me. It's almost impossible to get fired.

No worries man. Dont stress your self out. It makes the blood pressure go up. Just keep telling your self its just a job. If you want to stay there then do your job 100% and stay out of there way. Dont give them any reasons. And being a welder you can find work almost anywhere. Just cause you work on golf carts dont mean you cant find a better job. Im sure loads of places would like to have someone with your talants. Take care and remember dont stress over it. Life is too short. good luck bud

Sounds like they want to see you gone. Make them terminate you for something other than misconduct. At least you should receive a severance package.

I would also start to look for a new job. The best time to find a new job is when you have one.

I would have asked for a copy of the letter for my review prior to signing it. I then would have spent that night documenting EVERYTHING so my side was also on the record. I would have returned with that document in duplicate and asked for us BOTH to sign the updated document. If they refused, you now have copies of what transpired for your records.

If you just signed the version of the matter that they documented you have weakend your position to negotiate.

Either way, you are likely looking at a new career. It is more a matter of how much control you have in the situation.

Tough spot bud. As an employer for 40 years all I can say is that a good work ethic, few words and a smile on your face will go a long way in any job. Always remember that the powers that are, (sometimes complete morons) are always right! If you do complain, tactfully explain that it's for the good of the company. As said above, document everything....good luck

You may be coming across as a 'rebel' or "Shit Stirrer" . Some employers value their employee's opinions, some don't. The truth can be brutal, and some "boss'" can handle it, but most don't. I'd keep my opinion to myself, unless asked of course. Be respectful, even though your boss may be a dumbass, after all he is your boss. Always be truthful, but never exaggerate. Never "show-up" your boss in front of other employees.

damn Will, that sucks. i know its not the best time but you need to keep your eyes peeled for a different job. i'm pretty sure its illegal to fire someone over a medical reason, so if you think thats the issue you may want to pursue a legal solution if it gets worse.
