rare fj or dealership hoax

friend is looking for new vehicle. Showed me this ad. Just curious if it’s actually “rare” or if the dealer is pulling a fast one.

Do they all come with that auto transmission with manual option? At first glance I thought that might be why it’s “rare”.

 

Yeah, it's just an option to choose your gear and you get the manual t case, normal

a manual option? most if not all AT have the option to shift to lower gears... unless you mean the xfer case is manual then all fjs have that

Nothing seems rare but I dont know FJ's well. Maybe its just rare for your area?

its what the ad says. basically just fancy wording to describe a stock FJ.

 

FJ Cruisers have become really popular in the past few years since they went out of production, they have some of the highest resale value on the market at least here on the west coast. Higher than Tacomas. That's probably what they were trying to play into with the 'rare' bit.

Oh and that "manual option" BS is the same BS that dealers tried to use on me when I told them I wanted a manual transmission and wouldn't settle for an auto. "But with the auto you can still pick your own gear, it's just as good!" yeah ok buddy

 

Add says it’s auto trans with manual option. In the photos you can see the automatic shifter and beside it there’s a smaller manual looking nob

 

That transmission description is a stretch. It’s an automatic transmission and you can manually select a gear with the shift lever. That describes any and all FJ Cruisers with the auto trans. Look at KBB or Edmunds and see what they they say for 2013 FJ with 37k miles. As Speedytech7 said nothing rare or special.

Did they ever figure out why the inner fenders tear on these? I'm remember a long time ago people getting pretty wild that their FJ's pretty much got turned into a wad of shit if they saw any off roading

 

All they mean with the "manual option" is that you can manually select the gear you want by moving the shifter up or down, kind of like paddle shifters, but without a clutch.

No clutch = no manual though.

 

Oh right ahah I’m used to the switch on my tacoma.

They added some extra bracing on the 2010+ and so far I havent seen any issues mentioned at the dealership or the fj forums.

The tacos tear at the radiator supports/fenderwells and the early FJs get the fender bulges, Toyota seems to have issues with their front sheetmetal engineering. I havent paid attention to see if the 4rnrs have any sheetmetal issues.
