So I did the extra d-ring mod today and only used 2 of the 5 they sent me. So I decided to use the same hardware I used to mount my ammo cans and mounted 2 of the extra D-rings on the front bed rail under the rear window. I typically need OEM cleats in the same spot when I haul stuff. So I decided to just put some more permanent and harder to steal tie down points there. Not sure if any1 has done this before but I thought I'd share.

This is a pic of just the left one, but there is one equal distance on the right side on the rear sliding window seal < If that makes sense.

what backing hardware did you use? Also, can you show what you did for your ammo cans?

How strong is the bed rail system? That looks like a great idea, my only concern is will the bed rail just become the failure point instead of the cheap tie downs.

Im guessin he just drilled 2 holes in the back of the ammo can and installed the bolts the same way...Just replace the D-ring with ammo can.

That way he can move the ammo can around and store stuff. Pretty neat idea.

That was my concern too, however I use the floor D-rings for main tiedowns and the bedrails for back-up/extra support. < kind of a contingency tiedown.

^ thats exactly what I did. But I also used the strut channel nut on the inside of the ammo can too. Basically it goes (from inside out)... bolt, strut channel nut, ammo can, washer, strut channel nut. < if that makes sense.

    Here's another pic....added a 3rd ammo can today, between the 2 d-rings

I got it at Lowes in the Electrical dept. I believe it was called a "strut channel cone nut" or something. When I bought it it looked like the pic below, but the 1 in the pic is about twice as thick as mine. The white plastic cone is just glued into the nut, most of them pulled off by hand, some needed pliers to get off. Also i doesn't fit they way you think/wish it would (long ways up and down) it only fits in sideways, unless you grind it down like in the thread discussed below

ALSO ........look at this other thread too, I got the idea entirely from this guy StaticFilter. Page down to post 15 and he gives great instructions. So if u visit his thread give him Rep points for the info.
