Electrical issue Tacoma 2017 TRD

Hi there! Just want some help/advice regarding an electrical issue found after trying to measure / find the 12V cable from the rear view mirror to install a cable for my radar. I,m pretty sure that did an incorrect contact with the cables and did something wrong. Anyway, the symptom is that when I turned off the power (ignition button) I noticed that the tachometer and rest of the gages stayed at the last position, example: Tachometer stayed at the last rpm lecture when turned off. The same for the temp and gas. After that, none of the lights, door locks, etc are powered. Is not until I turn on the ignition again that everything just come to life. The truck start normally and after the engine is running everything goes to normal. All lights (interior/exterior) works, gages, power door locks, windows etc works well when the ignition is on. But when i just turn off the truck, everything is lost again, I can’t even use the remote to lock the truck. I disconnect the positive trying to reset but problem continue and also check all the fuses, and seems to be ok. Again, after started or when the ignition is on, everything works. Any clue, relay burnout maybe? Thanks!

 

Check the fuses. Using a test light is the fastest way.

 

Disconnect your battery positive and negative cables and touch the cables together and see if everything resets

 

Have you undone everything you did? It sounds like you have a constant 12v live wired to a switched 12v live, so you are back powering (at an extremely low current) some of the systems that should be off with ignition, (in this case the gauges), and that power it taking away from some systems that should be constantly live (like door locks). Just a guess, really hard to tell without knowing what you did and also having a wiring diagram in hand. canbus systems usually have a lot of resettable fuses (not that I’ve checked on the Tacoma), so you may well be tripping one and resetting it after starting, which would explain some of it as well.

 

I tried disconnecting the battery positive but still. I'll try both, positive and negative to see if works and let you know.

 

Disconnect the negative terminal and depress the brake pedal to clear the Jeep alive memory.

 

Well, I was able to fix the problem! May be, its best to say that I was lucky after all! Today I was troubleshooting and doing exactly the same as did yesterday (trying to install a Mirror Tap MTX cable and a Blendmount for my V1 radar) this time I just blowout two fuses, one at the engine compartment box (10) for ecu, and one at the inside box (7.5) for tail. Anyway, short story, when replaced the 10 fuse, the original problem was resolved although no functioning the power windows, air pressure monitoring, air bag light on, and some other air conditioning lights not functioning. When replaced the 7.5 fuse, everything went to normal. I'll keep an eye if something abnormal just show up, but until now everything was fixed. After all, I think that is better go to some certified personnel to do the job Thanks to all for your comments and suggestions!
