I served on jury in 2008. It was an interesting experience. I'm glad I did it. It also helps my job still pays me if I do jury duty.

 

Seems like I've been summoned three times in the last four or five years. I've yet to be selected. Normally I don't mind the process. Haven't been getting much sleep the last few nights, so I'm running on fumes this morning. Makes for a long day. The people watching is always interesting though.

 

I've never actually made it onto a panel.
I wanted to do it the first two times I was called in, but wasn't picked. Then the next two times, my boss claimed hardship on his business if I was gone (only three of us there at the time), so I was excused. Now I seem to get the summons in the mail, but only have to call in, just to find out I don't even have to go in.

Sorry to hear about lack of sleep. That totally blows.

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea back in October. It turns out I wake up every 17 minutes. I've been on the machine for 2 months. I sleep 6 hours a night and feel amazing. Before I felt like shit ALL the time.

I feel like this is the 1st step to becoming Darth Vader but if it means I sleep well that's cool with me.

I did a sleep study a few months ago. Didn't sleep at all during the study. Don't know what the actual result was.

 

Mark, did you have to do a sleep test to find this out?

 

Yup. During the sleep test they hooked me up to a CPAP machine around 2am. I slept for 4 solid hours on my back. That shit never happens. They even let me sleep later than they're supposed to because my sleep quality was so good.

The machine doesn't work for everyone though. I've met people that are obsessed with it and others than can't stand it. It definatetly takes getting used to sleeping with a mask on your head. I breath out my mouth so I have a full mask. Some people only breath through their nose and have a nose mask. I think being a scuba diver helps. I don't get any kind of claustrophobia with stuff on my face.

One of the unexpected benefits I found was that when I'm camping in cold weather I can have my head completely concieled in my sleeping bag. The air never gets stale because it's pumped in from outside. I just plug the machine in to my inverter which runs off the dual battery system. With the machine's heated tube and humidifier it draws about 3.5amps.

They do make smaller battery powered units and some have solar panels.

The only thing is that they only operate to about 8400 feet. The machine automatically compensates for altitude but only below that.
