2016 OVTune Tacoma 3.5L Manual Transmission / Engine ECU Reflash

I don’t have this tune, still monitoring threads about it and hoping to purchase it in the future if it all goes good. But thought I would add this, I love enduro riding. Hence my screen name, and when ECU’s are flashed on FI bikes for different maps, immediately after, they HAVE to be let idling for 15-20 minutes for the engine to gather all new data and adapt to its new mapping specifics. So it definitely makes sense when others are saying let it idle first as it surely applies to the two wheel side of the table.

 

I used the Techstream today at work to confirm that with the tune installed that its undetectable. I had initially thought there was an issue because I couldn't clear codes after the health check on my '18. Turned out the Techstream was the issue. I updated the Techstream and the codes cleared after the health check with the tune installed. If you have to take your truck in to the dealer for warranty work that is or could be related to the ecu I wouldn't bother flashing back to stock. It's totally undetectable.

 

Makes sense, I'm also on E rated 275/70R17's which probably dulls any jerkiness that might be there with smaller/lighter tires. I'm ok with a twitchy throttle anyway coming from some previous cars that were very much that way so I wouldn't change a thing, I like it like that, but I guess I could see how that would be kind of annoying to some.

 

Glad to get another confirmation, brings me another step closer to pulling the trigger on the purchase.

 

I'm running stock tires on lighter rims without any additional weight on the truck and haven't experienced any driveability issues. I also live in a part of the country where we don't see the pavement on the roads for 4 months of the year and see the throttle response as a non issue.

 

what wheelset are you running? what specs? offset etc.

 

I can't remember the manufacturer. Stock 17" size with a stock wheel offset. Best pic I have right now.

 

Don't let the pic fool you. I do live in a cold part of the country. I had the truck down to Florida for a month during Christmas the day after I bought it.

My truck's been to the dealership for service 3 times since flashing last summer - none the wiser. Though I can't help but think some tech at some point has hopped in my truck and said "this drives better than the ones on the lot!?"

Given how clean this seems to burn I'm going to go get this one unofficially Nashville emissions approved in a couple of weeks as well. Thought about flashing back to stock for that but if it passed on the stock calibration (it did) with the smoky mess that came out of the exhaust I will be shocked if I have a problem.

 

Went to write file and it says corrupt !! Any ideas ? Thanks

 

I'm in Northern Ontario and it's been -20 to -30c for the last month. Too cold to fish but warming up this week so it's happening.

 

i just cannot possibly understand how you folks can do it. it's like 50F here and i've got a chill.

 

Just got back from a ski trip. Put about 400-500 miles on the truck. I still have the studdering/hesitations around 2-3k, still no misfires though. I still think tip in and out is too harsh but it could be an issue with the throttle mapping itself.

Throttle response above 3k is very good, but the throttle response below that is very odd. Its almost like the first 5% of the throttle does very little, and then the next 5% has all of it. Feels like there is a deadzone at tip in and then all of a sudden it takes off. Id be curious to see the throttle mapping currently. I had to drive into NYC and almost flashed back to stock as the constant stop and go traffic made it very apparent that the throttle at lower speeds makes it very difficult to be consistent. Id like to see something more linear then what we currently have.

I hauled about 800-900 pounds in people, and another couple hundred pounds of gear in the bed and it drove really well through the mountains, averaging around 19 MPG at 65-70. I dont start towing my track toys for a few more months but based on that experience I think it will be just fine.

Born and raised here and I'm climitized to the cold. I went down to Alabama in August once and thought I was going to die when the temps were 95F and 100% humidity. The locals thought is was pleasant.

 

here in NTX it'll be searing, usually a long run of days over 100F. this summer i expect to use my A/C maybe 8-10 times the whole summer. which is equally as nuts if you ask me.

 

No one have any interest in full OTTO?

 

I'm stock right now and I have that bump @ 2500 rpms.. by bump its a hesitation, not real noticeable but since you all have talked it up with the tune, I noticed it today. Seems to only be in 1st gear with moderate excel... that's stock so maybe its something that's been there and now more noticeable with the tune giving more power down low???

 

I've expressed some interest. I think it remains to be seen if it's worth it and I believe that it's not even a priority for @OVTune right now because he's looking to move on to boost, and he said that a full otto tune would depend on if there's enough demand. I'm likely a good candidate to use the map and enjoy it though since I rarely go below 25-3k rpm anyway lol I prefer staying a touch higher in the powerband than a lot of people
