Thats impressive. The older nissan cvts were hit and miss and the 2010-2016 where almost all miss. She is a lucky person to get that many miles out of a nissan cvt. Just google "nissan cvt problems".

    This^^^^

I've driven a manual since i was 16 years old, with a couple auto's here and there. Always regretted getting rid of the manual's and sold the auto's pretty quick. I just love driving a stick. Being connected to the road and such, lol... Just more fun. :mudding:

It's just a shame other truck MFG's have went away from sticks. I fear the day the Tacoma does the same, please never let that come:rofl:

And i just corrected the only thing i dislike about the 6spd in my tacoma, thanks to an awesome member on here! Funny thing is, i did this on two wranglers, but it only took a cable for them, being manually actuated. And no hybrids for me, don't want to worry about expensive battery packs after 150k :crapstorm:

A small displacement diesel electric would be the bees knees for towing, just like they use on locomotives.

Last I heard they are not as durable. That’s why u only see them in light cars. But if it would be heavy duty then can handle the work of a truck then I am ok that.

We both keeping waiting for it to give up. She's wanted a new vehicle for a few years now but it's paid off and it just won't die. Sounds like she's the exception with these.

Did I see where Toyota has already dropped the manual in the 4 cylinder Tacoma? I've only ridden in CVT vehicle, but would rather go that direction than slushbox. I've yet to see an automatic get the economy possible with manual.

I think MPGs are definately where CVT has the advantage. I have 28k on a Honda CRV that we get 33-35 MPG on the highway but it is still light enough to feel sporty in the S mode with the Eco turned off.

I could definitely see CVT's appearing in small reg cab, short box 4 cylinder trucks. A small delivery truck with better mpg for deliveries around town, I could see a lot of companies such as NAPA for example changing their delivery fleets to these. Even if they improved fuel mileage by 2-3% with a CVT that adds up immensely in a fleet.

We have a 2016 Forester with the 2.5L and CVT... no turbo. Putting around town, it's got more scoot than my Tacoma. Hammer down and yeah, the Tacoma has got much more, but just putting around, that Forester is more satisfying to drive.

It’s all good. Waranty fix. Sold it the day we got it back and now I have a Tacoma I love.

He said that he doesn't have a 3rd Gen to spend a lot of time with debugging and that the system is different with its own control unit. Someone had posted about a 3rd Gen'er just buying one and testing with the possibility of resale if it didn't work.

I am holding out hope for some hacker to make it happen. The couple times that I used 4Lo to back in and pull into my garage was a freaking pleasure over the bit of clutch slip that it takes. My luck is that we will move and some one will drop the mod.

can they make the CVT strong enough for a truck and towing? that would be my biggest concern.. if they can then i think it would be nice especially for towing... didn't ford drop a lot of CVT's because of reliability problems?

our 2016 outback had a CVT and seemed ok.. it was programed to feel like a 6 speed conventional automatic trans though which takes some of its effectiveness from it.. th ebuying public is the reason they programed it that way, the masses don't like the feel of a normal CVT.

    Don't they already use them?

I know Nissan had nothing but problems with theirs.

Subaru was brave enough to throw a CVT in the WRX and I'd hate to burst your bubble, but our 3rd gens have just around the same power as the Subie. Only difference being the WRX gets heaps more torque down low. haha :crapstorm:

I agree that our Forester XT feels great while on the pedal. I can hear that twin scroll spooling just off of idle, almost diesel-like.

I said it before, with the partnership, I wish Toyota would let Subaru at the engine tuning. We've had a few different HP turbos now. They're just great. Although, I'm not sure that it would be a good motor for the Taco if used often for towing / hauling.

What about their 2.5 with low boost? Probably too thirsty.
