Once people get hooked on the meth EVERYTHING takes a back seat to getting the next hit.

Whether it's friends, family, kids, job, all will be pushed to the side for just one more high.

People like this usually have a record of theft as well since they'll steal anything that isn't welded down to sell for another hit.

And the kids learn from their parents...

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
    Well said.

It's been explained to me that the first time is the best time (how high you get) and every time after that, you are chasing the first high. This is why they OD. They have to increase (or even mix other drugs) the dosage because they build a tolerance with each hit.

No argument there but when an average Joe or his wife injures their back and the doctor prescribes an opiate...lookout. That's where some people get hooked.

Thats what the opiate crisis is about. It's not an inner city/"poor people" problem anymore, it has escalated into affluent suburbs where soccer moms are getting fucked up, bankers, etc. The pharmecutical companies need to be bitch slapped something fierce. They are just as bad as the cigarette companies IMO.

Its not really the story that is a WTF to me, its his moms name o_O Her name is really Tia-Juana? Must be a story behind that one. :notsure:

The parents of missing doctor Timothy Cunningham shared the last text message they received from their son before his disappearance two weeks ago.

Cunningham, a highly regarded epidemiologist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, went missing after he left work mid-day on Feb. 12, complaining of feeling ill.

After Cunningham, 35, failed to report to work or contact his family over the next two days, his parents, Terrell and Tia-Juana Cunningham, drove down to Georgia from their house in Maryland to check on their son.

Anyone remember how the taliban had almost eradicated poppy from afghan? And how a committee in Europe demanded that it be allowed again so that the poor farmers could earn a living again?

    ^^^this

I had a kidney stone (#69) get jammed up in my right ureter last summer. Because I have an acceptional pain tolerance I was under reporting my pain and was sent home with Percocet.. for a week. Three visits to the ER and more pills and injections of dillauded. I was to the point that each pill would start to wane and I would be watching the clock for my next dose.... but no body would see me beyond a pill chaser... pain is at a 5-7 doc.

I finally got into a urology visit a week later where we discovered that my "5-7" is a "8-10" per the helpful little card in the exam room.

They pulled my blood panels and a CT and found that my right kidney was badly infected and on the verge of shutting down. I was rushed into surgery to place a stent to bypass the blockage and get the infection dealt with.

A deluge of pain meds for the next week, and I went in for my second surgery to roto-root out the ureter and the other 6 stones in that kidney, leaving a stent in place for swelling.

By the time I was home from that surgery I noticed I was not sleeping, hadn't shit in a week and a half, and my brain kept saying, "another pill and you'll sleep and the pain will go away". My logos kicked in and came to the realization that I was well on my way to opioid addiction and had my wife take the drugs away and hide them.

The next few days I was in mild hell, not as bad as it could have, I was still thinking logically. But a textbook case of detox none the less. I got the sicks, shakes, fever, sweats, super irritability, you name it. Was even telling my wife that i needed the pill to help with pain. And while this was 80% true, she gave me a Naproxin and said suck it up, thankfully.

So yeah. Addiction is a terrible thing and even my not so deep touch with it showed how powerful it can be.

So, how can people do this to their kids? It's because their next fix is all they care about.

Can we just let Florida secede?
