Hitch receiver pin

The hitch receiver pin I have won't fit the width of the hitch... it's not long enough (never heard that one... HA). What pins have y'all purchased that are long enough for the tacoma?

Of note, I tried a friends pin and his barely works but we have to hammer it to barely get the cotter pin in.

 

I had the same problem, go to Lowe's or Home Depot, and measure the one they have to fit the TRD. I had one from a previous unit and it will fit my TRD. You have to measure the receiver on the truck also.

 

Yeah. Both of the ones that I had from the custom 2in Class II receivers on our cars wouldn't fit. I think the Class IV on the Taco is wider because it is double walled for that class.

I got a cheap, non-locking Smittybuilt pin for now, since I only need it for my shackle hitch or for occasionally towing our little 4x8 trailer.

Take your pin with you to get the right size.

Have one myself. Uses the Toyota truck key to lock/unlock. LOVE IT.

 

Thanks for the heads up on this. I've got a tow hitch and receiver shackle that I never bothered to test fit just yet, because I just assumed it would fit. I'll have to test it out tonight.

It doesn't say in the website or the Amazon description. Does it key to the ignition key on the first use or is it universal to Toyota keys?

Tumbler gets coded to your ignition key on the first use. There are directions provided in the packaging.

Go to a tractor supply store ( https://www.tractorsupply.com/) or a like store and buy a top link pin of appropriate width.

 

Looks like it'll only work with the old style tailgate key. I think the newer Tacomas all use the same side cut key for the tailgate and ignition so that wouldn't be compatible.
