2016 OVTune Tacoma 3.5L Manual Transmission / Engine ECU Reflash

I tried the full warm up cycle as suggested. Let the truck warm up from cold with all hvac off for 20 mins. Seems better and less bouncy rpms. However stutter is still there. Its exactly at 2700- 3000 rpms under light throttle. My cold air intake will go chirp, chirp, chirp consistently every time. This is right in the sweet spot of driving and very annoying. The truck surges or has a slight hesistation and is hella annoying.

Any 18's have the stutter?

 

Understandable .just that i would be very interested to see how this engine wood perform in full Otto compared to gen2 taco.
More torque ,wider power band?

 

Eliminating the Atkinson cycle won't make any difference in power. Atkinson only comes into on light throttle applications. I can't see any benifit in removing it. The truck will loose some MPG that the conservative drive would notice.

i was just checking, because it has looked like the xx10's and xx11's are having these issues at times. but i'm not totally sure of that since 1.03B. so, just watching and seeing if there's any possible pattern to it.

 

speaking for myself, and i suspect speaking for others that were interested in trying Otto only, it was not for a power gain, but for sharpening the throttle response. the Atkinson cycle is so numb, and we're all used to a sharper edge with the throttle. from Otto, historically speaking anyway. i mean, who the hell has ever driven a proper Atkinson motor? ours isn't an Atkinson motor, but the bit of Atkinson cycle at low rpm is enough to numb things down to make lots of the MT guys unhappy.

 

It may help with throttle response but most member that have the 103b tune are saying that the throttle response is too abrupt. I have no issues with my 18 with the 103b. If Matt does make a tune that eliminates it I would still be interest in trying it.

as soon as I have the new version of flash manager out that fixes the MT file download I will have it with the updated throttle maps. this will be a really easy fix

Anything for the stuttering or will that require a manual truck to figure out?

 

Mine had the stuttering on my test drive after flash. I disconnected the battery for 10 minutes. The next morning I started it with everything turned off and let it warm up to operating temperature. This cut the stuttering in half I would say. After that just putting some miles on it and it is all but gone. I think after another tank of fuel or so the should clear right on up. My opinion.

 

I'm about to get on the road on Thursday, so I'm planning to start fresh by reflashing 1.03b and then let it sit and idle to see if that cleans it up through a 'dedicated' learning cycle. my stutters aren't bad and only when cold, but the low throttle position modulation is a bit too choppy and i can use more smooth with all this rain.

 

Add some weight to the bed and see if your throttle doesn't feel a lot better. My truck is a pig and it feels good to me...


On a side note if Matt could broaden the Atkinson cycle engine load tables a little more for those of us who have a lot of extra weight on our trucks so we could see some benefits from it that would be great. I'm pretty sure my truck only sees low enough loads to get any benefits from it when I am rolling down hill in neutral. @OVTune

Edit: I assume the Atkinson cycle is transmission specific in the engine tunes. If not it would be nice to know if it can be altered so that it is moved up in the rpm range in the manual transmission tunes to say 2200-3000rpm range. That is the 65-80 mph range for most of us I think I am safe to say for stock gearing.

 

Not sure if everyone knows but when you flash, Matt said to let it idle for 10minutes so the truck can learn. He said dont touch anything while its idling, not even the brake. ‘Maybe’ that could fix the stuttering you are experiencing ?

 

I tuned as soon as the update was released and did not idle.
Should I just reflash with the update again and let idle for 10 mins? I'm not sure what the stuttering you'll are referring to.

 

I’m sure it’ll be fine if you let it idle tomorrow for 10 min.

You can always hook up PCM flash and select “reset DCTs” which will allow the truck to learn the new idle maps.

No need to flash again.

 

In Hurricane, Utah right now in the hotel getting ready for bed. Hauling the bike down and around while down here has been outstanding! It really feels like it's not even there. The truck pulls very well, holds rpm's well, and accelerates well.

Love this damn truck now!!!
