Best way to lift my 2017 Tacoma!

I know close to nothing about modifying my Tacoma and my attempt at researching lifts only left me more confused, so some guidance would be most appreciated!

What I have: 2017 Tacoma SR5, 2WD Access Cab with 16" stock tires.

What I'm looking for: Complete kits that require little to no changes that would leave my truck with un-reversable modifications with an overall added height of no more than 4" (which includes lift kit and all terrain tires), handling that is closest to what I have now, and long lasting durability.

What I'm for sure NOT looking for: Leveling kit or those kits that just add height to the front tires.

Intended use: To look gorgeous. I don't see my truck as a toy, thus don't have the urge to launch it off sand dunes or drive it down steep mountains. I just want it to look good as it drives on paved roads.

Again, I know nothing about Tacoma modifications so hopefully what I am looking for is realistic and attainable. If I had left out any information then let me know. Any suggestion or information would be extremely helpful!

    OP,

Things you want to do for sure.
    • Figure out exactly the amount of lift you want
    • Figure out tire and wheel size you want.
    • Google pictures of what your combination looks like
    • Talk to a vendor like headstrong
    • Assemble a TW squad at your house with beer and tools to install it.

By saying your knowledge is “close to nothing”... then saying “no budget” leaves me to wonder if you have priced full kits? Your talking about $400 to $5000 price difference between spacers to fully capable suspension lifts. Yours being a 2wd, runs spacers and be done with it. Just my .2

No budget, why not dirt king long travel front end and kings long travel coil overs with adjusters? It’s only $5,000 for the front end.

Well seeing as you’re a new poster, i kind of am too, they’re a few things you should know. First off as an “enthusiast” forum most of the people on here build their trucks for hardcore off-roading (at least in our minds).

That said there’s nothing wrong with wanting your truck to be used simply as the vehicle to get you to and from work. To be honest I’d imagine that’s how MOST Tacoma’s (or 1 Ton Diesels for that matter) are used most of the time.

The advice of finding pics of what you want it to look like is by far the best. Decide on a tire size and wheel combo you like that base the lift off of that. Be aware that loving the look of 35”’s and a 6 inch lift is going to open a huge can of worms, regear horrible MPGs ext.

I like tall narrow tires, plenty of others like wider tires sticking outside the flares. Think about your uses, the MPGs you want to maintain, and what kind of road noise you can live with.

Once you decide on wheels and tires (figure $1600-2000) than an appropriate spacer lift is probably just fine. Be sure you get it properly aligned so it’ll track true and rotate those expensive tires often.

Enjoy your new truck and your own style. But be for warned, saying things like no budget and won’t ever go offroad generally invite an onslaught of $hit around here hahaha.

The advice of headstrong is solid. Budget 3k for the project you’ll likely be just fine.

This advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

    -Yota

Oh yeah and welcome to the forum, at least you found your way to the best forum on the net for your Tacoma. There is literally no question you can ask that can’t be answered here.

agreed! if you're not taking it off road, spacers are the way to go. they're super inexpensive and i've never had a problem with mine
