I believe it was stainless, let me look.

I can't find it, thought it was from Amazon, but it isn't in my orders. I'm pretty sure it was stainless.

Its tucked away in the garage with several other stablemates. Once spring has sprung i'll dig it out and get some pics. Here's an older pis of 2 of the 900ss's and Moto Guzzi V50 MK-3

That is actually the one thinking of getting for the JJ, it has been in my Amazon list for a long time. It is 17.5" dia. which fits the top rack in the WSM and also the JJ.

The lower grate on the WSM is a smaller diameter which you probably know. 17" or 16 7/8" to be exact. That has been in my list for awhile now too.

When you start ice fishing and have an established hut - I will fly out there - with a classic lobster bake and we will eat like kings - I supply the surf, you supply the turf and we will hard water party like some kid from Hibbing said it was a millennial change...Dogs need to be included

Know I am not Carey but I have the Weber SS 304 SS on my 22" kettle. Because I got tired of replacing the nickle plated ones every couple of years. Upgrade is no rust. Easier to clean. For the WSM some are even using unplated charcoal grates. They don't get the intense heat of a kettle. But still rust. After you replace them enough times realize you could just go SS and be done with it. Have not had the need to replace the WSM grates yet but when I do will go SS.

I can't think of any downsides. clean it up every once and a while and it should last a long time. I think SS is an upgrade.

Thanks for that. I will get what @WBF610 said. I’m tired of the cheap hard to clean factory grates.

This. These grates are not expensive to upgrade to SS. When my other grates get bad enough, they will be replaced with SS.

You got it! Toller Fest LOL, look forward to it. Need to at least get you out here ruff grouse hunting. Or over in the Dakotas on pheasants.

Have awhile yet for spearing and fishing through a hole in the ice. Some pretty fancy ice shanties around could always rent one too. Most have pizza delivery by snowmobile as long as you can get cell phone reception. I like the surf and turf idea better!

In another month you run into problems ice fishing. Someone will start crowding your hole. In a damn boat.

Where did you get the 22in SS grate, and how much. I been in the market I'm tired of the cheap nickel plated ones that keep rusting.

If you click on the link for the one posted earlier you can get it through Amazon. That would be the best bet.

I purchased mine back before there were 3rd party options. Weber used to offer a SS replacement but pretty sure they do not have them anymore. They were not cheap either.

At this point it's more about when - cast & blast is awesome and I'll just bring bugs & steamers when I come out. Beef and Chicken are easy - Walleye and Saugers as needed.

Dobs says Hi - He's done teething - And house broke - your predictions stand. And I can't thank you enough - I laugh a lot at his actions because of your predictions. Your encouragement helped me pull the trigger - you see me next door so you have a better grip than anyone here.

    To that end:
To All Here - Cold Iron is one smart gentleman so listen up when he speaks - if you don't understand, ask - he'll explain - on or off line.
I may not owe him a debt but I do appreciate his advice - and I'm grateful.

And if he thinks I owe him he'll call me out because that what we do - and I'll pay it because that what we do...

I was able to save the bone in ribeye that I found in the freezer today that didn't seal, or the seal broke at some point. Not sure where I even got it. Not the best of cuts, choice at best but worth a mercy grilling.

Thick enough it took an hour and 15 min. to come up to temp before the final sear. No need for anything else with a chunk of meat like that but water, should have had some green stuff with it. Next time.

    bone in ribeye plated.jpg

Ate what I could until the meat sweats hit. Then cleaned off the bone and have plenty of left overs for tomorrow, and maybe the next day.

    bone in ribeye finished.jpg

Time to take the Toller out for a final run and call it a day. Eating that much meat is a labor of love :) And Atkins friendly as long as I stay out of the deserts and carbs my sons bring into the house.
