What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Replaced old body mount bushings with energy suspension ones.







Also did the linear spring mod for my clutch pedal so no more squeaking and now I don't have to help it up the last half inch.




Also, does anyone have the issue where if you continue to press on the brake pedal it makes a popping noise, then releasing it it pops again? Trying to determine what that is from...

 

Could be your booster starting to go out. ....

#70 spring from Ace hardware... I can't remember the exact thickness and length but if you have a Ace by you it's where all the free bolts and nuts are.

 

Hmm, haven't noticed anything different in my braking... If feels almost as if the whole assembly is loose. The clutch also will occasionally "pop"... I just can't locate where it's coming from.

Nice! For only about $2 I think it was well worth it. Hardest part was getting that huge spring out...

body bushings make a difference?

 

i probably should put new body mounts in. i dont want a body lift, so what thickness do i need?

 

If someone installed them without me knowing I wouldn't have noticed a difference. I installed them because when it was rainy/cold every time I would go over a bump I would get a popping and shifting noise and I suspected the body mounts to be the issue.

I got these ones. No body lift.

How hard/long is this job?

 

Not too difficult... I feared for my fingers the whole time... Make sure you put some 2x4's between the body and frame just in case.

Took me about 4 hours total to do all 6 mounts.

 

I have this same issue when wet out. I’ll be interested to hear if the body mount bushings solve the problem

 

So are 2wd trucks use a different gear then the 4wd trucks ? I also need a smaller gear so I think I’m gonna order a 16 using that part number you gave me. When I look that number up it says it’s for 89-92 pickups and runners. It still works fine on are first gens ?

 

My clutch did that. Turn out that the bolt holding the bracket was loose and the bracket was making the noise. In my case I had to tighten that brass bolt up at the top of your picture (holding the bracket to the body)

 

Yes the gears are different for the A340E (2WD) vs A340F (4WD). On the 4WD trucks the gear is in the transfer case. On 2WD its on the passenger side of the tail housing.

I suggest you plug your VIN into toyodiy.com and check to see what gear you currently have. Either that or crawl under the truck, pull the gear out, and count the teeth. Once its in you can just search for the gear assy name and you should be able to find it (use the link I posted for reference).

 

just flip the taxi guys off and yell at them, they can go around. you need to find a dirt road and get a feel for your truck. theres always a place where they're buliding houses. just go for a spin, dont touch nothing.
