What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Yea I looked it up using Toyota parts deal and toyo diy both say I have the 17:6 gear

 

All this talk about cost of living and such out in Cali reminded me of how much I hate truly big cities. Some places are just not worth the cost... for example, my buddy lived in Chicago a few years ago and was paying 1800/mo for a 600 sqft 1 bedroom, $180/month for parking. It took him an hour or more to get to work. He always told us it was worth it because of the night life and how there was always something to do. He finally moved out of town to a 2 bedroom 1000 sqft apartment and paying about $900/mo, free parking. Now he rides the train to work every day and it takes him about 90 minutes. With the money he saved the first year he bought a nice FZJ80 and is planning to build it up for overlanding. I will never pay to live in Chicago or any other big city like that if I can avoid it.

As for what did I do to my Taco today? Thought about the fun I will have next time I'm home and can take it out on some trails.

 

I think I still have the 16 tooth gear that I used before I got new diff gears. I'll sell it cheaper than new, send me a PM if interested.

What lift height are you guys running aftermarket UCA's at? Heard you're not supposed to run the stock UCA above a 2.5in lift, but I'm curious what you guys think.

Yeah if I can't be bothered to bring out the Iron I use the 3M version of those, they work well. Basically secrete hot glue all over the inside when they shrink.

 

Plus they have solder inside them.

 

If they work good, they could be a game changer! This is the 1st I've heard of them. Gonna have to order some up.

 

The work even better if you just dip the very tip of the bare wire in some rosin core solder flux.

 

I use a micro butane torch for my soldering. Could a torch be used with these?

 

Do you still have the little heat mirror attachment, otherwise you'll have to move quickly not to burn them.

 

If they are similar to heat shrink tubing in their combustion resistance, I think I might like them.

Just bought a OME kit for around $1200

 

I would like to see that $3k kit for the newer Tacomas redone for the first gens. But for that price I would rather start on a LT setup

 

Anyone know right off how many square feet of sound deadener is needed for back wall?
