Rear Leaf Spring Advice

I purchased the TRD Pro suspension kit and am looking for suggestions on what leaf pack to put on the truck. The kit will put the front up around 1.75” from what I can tell from those that have installed it. I want to keep the rake around the same as the factory rake. I have a snugtop camper shell and do keep a few things in the back. I do drive across country twice a year so a good ride on pavement is important to me. What are your suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Remove the thick overload leaf that's second from bottom. Easy to do, and will put you right where you want to be with the shell on the truck.

 

OME Dakar, Wheelers 5-leaf, or General Springs.

 

Is there a general consensus that one is better than the other?

 

I don't have hands-on experience with all of them, so no consensus from me. I merely listed what seems to be the most commonly recommended leaf packs for these trucks, based upon the amount of rake you want to keep and what you have for consistent weight in/on the bed.

Hopefully more TW'ers will chime in with their experience. You may even want to use the poll feature, see if that elicits more feedback.

 

For what little it's worth, I'm in a similar boat. Leer shell, Hi-Lift and Max-axe plus some other misc gear lives in my bed. Pro suspension waiting to be installed, but I have a Wheeler's single AAL sitting here with it. I have the 3+1 recall leaf pack with ~8k miles on them.

For me personally, I'll be going with the Wheeler's 5-leaf pack if the AAL doesn't give me the results I'm looking for (which is stock-ish rake when all is said & done). The Dakars are tempting though, especially for the price!

 

Would removing the overload leaf add rear lift or decrease rear lift?

 

Decrease load capacity and decrease lift.

That's what I thought, so the advice was to actually take that leaf out to lower the rear end slightly to get the rake OP wants, I take it?

 

And also to give it a more comfortable ride. I am definitely over 3" in the rear now, but I have a Steel High clearance bumper with a swingout almost ready to be installed. I planned the suspension this way because I knew adding that weight would level it out some.

I just put 886s on my front end in preparation for my demello bumper that's being built right now and am nose high AF (realistically only about 1.5 inches) I'm throwing the Headstrong 3 leaf AAL this weekend and hope that levels me off some. I also have a steel bumper, a RTT at times, and anywhere between 50-300 pounds of stuff in the bed. I'm sure it will look fine once I get the bumper and winch on, but I won't get the bumper delivered until April at latest estimate

 

You might have beef up the rear suspension unless I misunderstood that you do have a rear bumper with a RTT and 300lbs in the bed. You must squat like a MF'er..hence nose high AF..

 

You won't notice a difference in the way it rides with the second overload removed, unless you're carrying A LOT of weight. It will lower the truck 1/2"
