    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
Anyone know what the best way to determine if a Tcase will work with my 4x4 swap?

    I have a 2002 Prerunner, 6 cyl, auto
I want to swap to 6 cyl, auto, non-ADD

These 2 Tcases are available, but not sure either of them will work.

Left is from a 2002 6 cyl, auto
Right is from a 2000 6 cyl, manual

@BartMaster1234 is giving me (what is probably the best advise) to wait and get the trans and tcase together... but these Tcases are avail for 60 bucks (for either)

I had the exact symptoms on my 2nd gen. It was worn out lca bushings. Taped my phone in the well and made a video like this one. FJ In the vid, but you get the idea. Worth checking.

The thing that interfaces with the key is just a sleeve over the normal part that grabs the hook. Couple other users have lost the key and just broken that sleeve off instead. But your dealer should be able to get a key for you too.

hopefully somebody can confirm, but I believe the manual won't work on the auto tans, and you are probably going to want the J shift which doesn't have the additional actuator on the back of it

this is the back of my J-shift

hmm have you looked at your shock lower uniballs?

Yeah they will work. either one. Just depends on if you want a push button or a J shift.

That said, I don't know(and also don't think) that it'll bolt up to your prerunner tranny if thats what you're asking.

    Manual tcase...is a j shift ;)

Took care of this today! Thanks to all for the awesome tip. Used a roll pin as I dont have access to a welder. Worth mentioning to note the location of the flat spot on the spine; being 180 off set me back some time...an oh sh!t moment for sure. Thanks again folks!

I can see, in the pic the guy sent me, that the one he says came out of the 02 has that actuator.

Now, as far as manual vs auto.(I'm asking here) I thought the reason they aren't interchangable was the spline count is different, but this guy is saying the spine count is the same on both Tcases.

Bed comes off in like a solid ten mins of work and with two people. One person if you have an engine crane haha. But even then I've always been able to get my hand above my space, just need some good pliers to wrench the stupid socket thing off.

No, you should check if you have a key long before you get stuck. Like say when you bought the truck or when you check to make sure the spare had air.

No... I know it wont bolt up to my current transmission. What I'm trying to find out is if either will work as a non-ADD (all manual 4x4) with a A340F/4x4 trans with my 6 cyl

My lower uniball things on my shocks are ultra f*cked and don’t make a noise like your describing, so I wouldn’t worry about those being the problem.

Ultra fucked, damn what did you do. It's hard to put ginormous play into spherical bearings haha. The ones on my Icon were loose (compared to new ones) but didn't make much noise, in fact the newer ones make more noise overall.

They’re just old, the little ring thing that holds them in has popped out. Basically falling apart it seems like.

I read somewhere that the guy's ex-wife was going to get the truck in their divorce, so this is what happened (who knows if it's true)
