    Hello,

I have a '96 tacoma extracab 4x4, with 3.4LV6. I'm about to hit 180K miles. I have a leaky valve gasket, been watching the oil level and it's slow to drop, but will have to be replaced. Just wondering if anyone recommends additional work to be done while the valve covers are off?

I have always found this site to be a great resource, and look forward to your insite. Thanks.

    Bert

Replace your plugs, plug wires, and plug wire boots. My wifes 4Runner, which also had a leaking valve cover gasket just replaced, has 184K miles. When the mechanic was removing one of the plug wires one of them broke from being brittle. I'm sure yours should be replaced also. Also, your timing belt and water pump is do to be changed at 180k if it was replaced the first time at 90K.

timing belt at 65K and 135K, I'll douple check on the water pumps. driveline and Tranny service at 150K. new pvc valve 5k ago. I do need a new plugs/wires/boots. just wasn't sure about 2 birds/1 stone; opening up the engine.

I'm not sure if the fuel filter was ever changed either. figure it couldn't hurt.

Your suppose to change out the fuel filter every 30K but they can go at least 90K.
