I live in California and am looking to buy a new Tacoma from a dealer in Oregon. Are all new Tacomas manufactured to be sold in California? Are cars still sold with 49 states emissions stickers?

Careful! They’ll make you pay sales tax when you go and register it back in Calif.

You’ll have to get it smogged first, then go to the dmv for an inspection and to pay the tax and fees. Just make sure you know where the emissions sticker is, they’ll want to see it.

So, you pay sell tax in Oregon when you buy the truck and sell tax (on value) in CA again???Is that legal or just CA ripoff?

I might be wrong on new truck sales tax, but I know Oregon Has no sales tax.
That said if you bring in a new truck with less than 8,000 miles expect to get reamed.

Oregon doesn’t have sales tax, and yes, you’re required to pay the sales tax on it when you bring it into CA. I’m pretty sure most states do the same thing. You pay tax and title in the state the vehicle is being registered in.

CA pulling every penny they can from your wallet. It's their way of trying to force you to buy in CA vs saving money out of state and "importing" it to CA.

Still confused. I buy a truck from another state and pay the sell price and sell tax in that state. Then I drive it to CA and pay registration (no problem) AND sell tax for the value of the truck? WTF? Double taxation?
What if I buy beer in AZ and pay sell tax in AZ and take the box into CA do I pay sell tax on the beer again?

You will buy the truck for what ever you and the seller agree on, when you drive it to California DMV you will pay to register it for the year and put in your name, with that you also will pay tax on it.

No, you don’t pay the sales tax in the state you bought the car, only in the state you title and register it in.

look it up in the vehicle code, I believe there is something to keep people from buying new out of state.
So if it in your name with out of state title with let's say more that 8,000 miles. I don't think you pay sales tax.
If you drive to Oregon to get a truck as to not pay tax, and drive it 500 miles I think that's where you will get hit.
But again look it up, as I haven't done it personally

doesn’t matter in california....if it is a private party, get a bill of sale that states the sales price and ,mileage......low-ball if you want, but they will probably use the current value and them tax you on that.amount....just make it look good
