I would imagine that it doesn’t sense any weight so it automatically shuts off so it doesn’t hurt or kill a small person or kid. Airbags have been shown to injure kids and stuff in the front. Although my dog sits in the seat and it beeps cause he is close to 100 lbs. Lol!

That makes sense. Things are getting too complicated nowadays. Must suck to live in a non seat belt law state and decide not to wear your seatbelt and have dinging and blinking lights on all the time.

Dealer can turn it off, but light will still flash if they dont know how
hook techstream to the truck> go to main body ecu> utility> customize > warning> driver side seatbelt warning buzzer> click to off > hit the green arrow in the bottom right corner to finalize changes
if i can figure out how to put pictures on here ill put those on here too

This is the best way, but not all dealers will do so. I asked my dealer if he was willing to loose a customer because they refused to disable it due to "liability". He refused and I walked away.

Some people are just dumb. I went through the same thing with my 4 runner to turn of the DRLs. They were part of the turn signal so I couldn't just remove the bulb. First dealer I went to I had a service manager tell me that there was no way to do so. I then showed him the TSB. That was followed by a lecture that I was breaking federal law that mandates DRLs to which I responded, please show me the law and when you can't, then please explain why not all 4 runners had DRLs. After a lot of "wells" and "ums" and "buts" he finally agreed to do it, but I would need to sign a waiver of liability. I responded again with a question of why I would need to sign a waiver and he mumbled something again about the law. At that point I walked away suggesting if he doesn't know something that he shouldn't make it up because people don't like it when you lie.

I decided to get the USB cable and techstream. I bought it off ebay and it shipped from China. While it did work, the Chinese software contained a virus. Luckily it was an old laptop that I used for that purpose only.

Dealer turned mine off day before yesterday. The service Advisor told me its against the law to disable it. He was full of shit. The tech did it anyways.

I think some dealers dont know if its against the law so just dont want to do it. There is alot of liability invovled in working on someones car and the manager isnt a lawyer, and hes not going to call a lawyer to find out if he can do a job hes not going to make money on. Its possible maybe unlikely but possible to have a lawsuit over somthing like this. Someone getting in a wreck and saying i didnt wear my seatbelt because my car didnt remind me to, alot of money can go into that just because you have to go to court. It seems theres alot of hate for dealers on this site some i can understand, but they cant just do anything you feel like they should.

Print out the customization document posted earlier and circle what you want and take it in to your dealer.

I turned my seatbelt chime off using Tech Stream which is free online.

Just came from the dealer and they said they cannot turn the chime off due to federal law. I put up a little resistance and they called Toyota, same response.

Can anyone confirm that the carista app will work on the 2017’s? It’s unclear on their site??? WTF this chime is driving me nutz!

That's what the service rep told me too. He’s full of it. They ended up doing it for me. They called Toyota just like that? I wouldn’t accept that. I asked him to quote wich law.

Refer back to post #9 of this thread. Federal law? AHHAHAHAHA... If it were, the option to even turn it off wouldn't be there. Think about it.

    This.

Had my dealer do mine. Light will still be on, which is perfectly fine by me because I buckle up when I'm going more than a km.

Thanks for the replies, I’m a virgin on these internet blogs. First time to Toyota as well.

I’ll give’r the old backhand toe drag and dominate this gongshow.

Ok I received an email reply from CaristaApp and they said I will not be able to customize with 2017’s. Trusting what ‘Tonered’ said. I bought the carista thing anyway.

It worked! Very easy to use... it seemed like all customization setting were adjustable.

Definitely ran into some voodoo with this stupid situation but no more chime! Light stays on, I don’t care.
