So I also have this problem. I have attempted to smack the shit out of the pillar. It moved forward. Going to drive it later today to see results. I have also put special noise reduction boards in the cab to install if needed. Business Cards......

Well after the drive there is no sound anymore. I assume overtime the pillar will slip back out of place and that could be a problem with the sound coming back. I will keep an eye on it and smack the shit out of it as needed.

I really can't believe I signed up just for this noise (no pun intended), but here I am. I've been driving around with a business card shoved between the pillar and passenger speaker grill for about 6 months. It doesn't bother me but my GF thinks it looks ghetto, my friends always ask why it's there, and in the end after paying $40k+ for this truck I agree it shouldn't be making such an irritating noise without a 'business card fix'.

Anybody try to shim a small square piece of felt in that crack without prying apart anything first? I was going to try taking it to the dealer but after reading this thread it sounds like a terrible idea...

I still can't believe this thread has 8 pages...

You think that is bad this isn't the only thread. My thoughts on a terminate solution would be to shave down or aggressively put in a felt tape between the two sections. Or when in doubt smack the shit out of it.

Really, this is the simplest fix ever to an annoying problem. If the business cards or toothpicks truly stop the rattle. Pry the A-pillar bolt covers loose. A thin plastic trim tool is helpful but not needed. Remove the bolts and wiggle out the pillar cover. You might consider marking your pillar cover with tape first so you can ID the trouble spot or angle of dash once the pillar cover is off. Then simply apply a strip of felt tape to the trouble spot and reassemble. Be aware of the air bag and the weather stripping. It’s easy to pull the speaker cover once the pillar cover is off if needed. It’s probably not needed unless you want to secure the auto dimming lights plug from beneath. The speaker cover lifts up from the cab side (away from the windshield) with a thin trim tool. Work carefully. This is an easy one. Really. You could probably also just slip something small in there without pulling the pillar cover but the felt tape should be permanent. Good luck!

I would disconnect the battery first since there is an air bag there..

I actually also did it this weekend with the "loop" side of the Velcro. I used the "hook" side under some floor mats to keep them in place since all my passengers have a tendency to push them forward.

Nice, I'll give this a shot, thanks! Also the reco on the hook side velcro for the passenger-side floor mat is ingenious. Every time someone rides with me that thing is all jacked up afterward...

I had some extra "rough side" on the velcro and figured I would try. I haven't had any issues since. I used two 1" length strips on the corners closest to the seat figuring I would mimic the latches on the driver's side.

Truly, the speaker upgrade should have the Velcro or pads on the pillar as a step. Its too damn easy and only helps avoid rattles if you were to ever add a sub.

My '17 SR5 started with this noise intermittently back around November and I've been putting up with it. After a 6 hour drive on Monday from Philly to Norfolk, I couldn't take it any more. Then I actually looked here and tried the toothpick "fix" (didn't have wooden toothpicks, just one of those combo toothpick/floss deals, so it looks extra odd). The whole drive home yesterday the noise was completely gone. Just to verify, I pulled out the pick before driving to work this morning and the noise immediately returned.

When time and weather allows, I'll pull the a-pillar trim panel and add in a permanent shim (some felt tape or fuzzy velcro, if I can find my stash of that).

I'm annoyed that a truck barely over a year old without even 8,000 miles had already developed "old car" noises. My '03 Focus had 75k on it before it had any kind of rattles, and that cost 1/3 what the Taco did!

On the up side of the trip, I hit a new fuel economy record! Actually, a few minutes later, it hit 29.0 for the trip mileage, but that photo came out too blurry.

This noise has been bugging me the entire time I've had my '17, just had it in a few weeks ago for the 10k service. The tech said they couldn't replicate the noise.

This may sound crazy, but I think you're seeing symptoms of a non-broken-in rig.

I bought mine in the fall of 2016. Last winter when it got cold, the dash had all sorts of squeaks in it. Reading up on it, several people had taken their pillars apart and modified the parts that showed rubbed marks. But it was just too damned cold to be working on it and of course last summer it didn't cross my mind.

This winter the dash was dead quiet during those 0ºF mornings. With 25,000 miles on her.

The only problem is that it (mine, at least) was dead quiet until sometime last Fall. So, things from the factory are nice an snug...then loosen up and start making noise...then get even more loose and the noises go away? Maybe that's worked for you, but it doesn't seem logical to me.

Last fall was when it got cold, right? How many miles on your truck?
