    We've got a huge rain/snowstorm with hurricane-force winds coming in tomorrow, so I think I'll wait until after the nasty weather to address anything.

    What really sucks is that I know how to do all this shit myself but I don't have a lift and I really don't feel comfortable getting underneath the truck when it's supported by a floor jack.

    yeah. i've had to do two. they never squeaked. you'll know when they are bad by one of two ways. You'll get a clunk when putting your truck in gear and/or you will develop a vibration that only happens when the engine is under load.

    @81shark

    How much does it cost to get the U-joints replaced? I do not have the resources to do a job like that myself...

    that could be a u joint. take a look at your ujoints and look at the area that is blue or white in these ujoints (your will be black) and see if they are in good shape.

    depends on where you go. a dealer is not cheap. lost one on a vacation to denver. it was like 400 bucks at the dealer. i'm sure i was hosed on that deal, but when you are 1k miles from home, it's easier to go that route then it is to shop around.

    pulling the drive shaft is super easy. in your case, 4 bolts. if you can find a shop to press in the joint you should be able to get them changed for substantially less

    I'm thinking of something different then...

    What's the thing that connects my driveshaft to the rear diff?

    Also, where are the U-joints actually located?

    Most likely the issue .Not a fix but a troubleshooting technic is to use liquid tire wet and spray liberally to the leafspring . If that works then pressure wash the leaf pack and apply fluid film or 3m cavity wax and it should stay gone for a decent amount of time . Repeat as needed.
