SMP Fab recent built a Tacoma with a Prerunner style tube bumper, but used part of the oem one as well.

I was considering doing something similar. Trying to keep truck as light as possible so I had considered building a tube bumper retaining partial factory bumper. Here is a tundra that did something similar25825607798_9b274884c6_b.jpg

Think he could have made it look a lot better with some tapered edges..

Any better pictures of that SMP fab truck?

would be interesting if somebody made a molded bumper like that of the ZR2 so the access was there but if you don't need metal then so be it.

Also DTF Fab has his Type C Bumper, that’s what I have.
    (Similar, but not my truck)

It has a hitch receiver built into the bumper, so it doesn’t run with the winch there full time !
It’s normal secured in the bed I believe.

Dewwwittt it’s only plastic sawzall an 15 min of work includes a beer break you’ll have a high clearance bumper. I love the look of the tubing outlined.

The lines of a gen 2 bumper don't really make trimming it a very good option, unless you're also doing a shit ton of work to make it look good - like basically adding a whole new aftermarket bumper to cover/ compliment the cuts.

Sorry to bring back a dead thread. But heres my 2 cents. I Did it to my gen2 2014. So tail end of the generation...but I like it and have gotten some love for it. Don't have any tube style bumper just running the stock bumper with the viper cut. I didn't make the cut too aggressive. The pics don't show the edge trim I put on to clean up the cut edge.
