@EddyRRT a member from another thread was saying steel prices have increased lately did your recent purchase go up in cost per ft. compared to what you are normally getting the steel for. Also he was saying that the pres. was going to impose a tariff on steel importers. Has your steel provider said anything to you about a price increase coming down the pipeline? You can PM me if you don't want to advertise on here all I am looking for is yes or no answers. The other member is from N. Ca. so there is that as well. I thought I would actually ask someone that deals in this on a regular basis.

Eddy uses American steel. No import tariffs on the good stuff.

That's cool but will the tariffs cause a shortage in USA made steel bc of the tariffs? This guy could just be overly worrying and it could just be a CA thing in the price hikes because it is CA

There are very few actual steel Mills in America. These new tarrifs on foreign steel are a serious wrench in the works. I understand getting people to work and producing our own raw goods but between getting investment and epa regulation, setting up new mills in country will be a lengthy process. The new tarrifs will more than likely only cause an increase in price (already seeing it a bit) but not so much a shortage. The only reason I could see a shortage is companies buying up current stocks before full implementation.

I honestly wouldnt care where it was made, if it's dfars complaint, it's good.

    I don't know much about steel.:anonymous:

Yeah I figured I would get some more input. Joe from Mobtown chimed in as well. I feel the same as you with what you said about the foundries and mills here and the tariffs.

Steel prices go up and down daily. But I've never noticed a price increase more then $6 per stick of 20/24'

Maybe I should say prices went up and increase prices hahaha jkjk

    I
It's a bit counter productive short term. Then again buying Chinese steel can really screw up a company (not naming anyone) I know that had to sue the mill which is essentially a Chinese federally owned company and is losing money hand over fist in the process. It's like sueing a country.

However, all of the CPM types are all American made like s90v, 30v etc. Which are already expensive but make outstanding edged tools/shears.
