There's not many battery manufacturers out there. Johnson Controls, Deka, and I know there's one or two more. Optima is owned by Johnson Controls, and I believe they make duralast, energizer, and a few more labels. Deka is a good manufacturer. As far as kind of battery, get a gel style battery like the optima, and other labels platinum series batteries. They do better in extreme temps and don't spill or leak.

I love my 3rd gen. Mine is a 16 OR 6MT. I have the OV tune as well on mine. As far as the differential whine goes. I don’t even worry about it now. I had the diff warrantied at 11k miles the new one does the exact same thing. I am a mechanic and have regeared tons of Toyota diffs and I looked at the third that was pulled from my truck. I saw absolutely no issues with it. The master tech and I tore it down and examined the bearings and such all was well. They just makes noise. My truck has 50k on it now with no issues and probably 20k of that is towing 3-5000lbs.

The manual transmission 3rd gen is a hause with out the tune. With the tune I now have to be careful not to loose traction. The tune really helped with towing as well which is the main reason I got the tune.

I beat the hell out of my truck off road and Work it like a borrowed mule. It just works. The thing is a tank off road.

Crawl control is a gimmick. Wife’s T4R has it and I have played with it but I would have no use for it in my truck.

I love my third gen. The biggest reason why is the interior and the dual zone climate control. I love the looks of the second gen though. I've been slowly modding mine and it doesn't effect the warranty at all. Just don't expect them to replace anything you've modded.
