When my gas light comes on, I use the 30 mile rule. I had no idea I had 3 gallon reserve. I grew up riding honda atvs and I should have known reserve is still a thing.

I'm aware of that but it never crosses my mind while driving. I'll probably end up paying for that later.

What? brakes wont work with engine not running?
I'm new to TW, but I'm pretty sure that's just not true.

and so to test this, I just now went to test this.

2011 model. driving about 35mph i turned the key off. hit the brake, skid to a stop.
    Did that 3 times.
Then again 35 mph, turn key off, slowly pump brakes. pumps 4-6 times before getting harder to push. harder to push. still easily stopped the truck.
    I repeated this 4 times.

WITH THE ENGINE OFF, THE BRAKES STILL WORK!

Lol, I said power steering and brakes, (meaning power steering and power brakes) Obviously they will still work, just un assisted by the brake booster.

fair enough. could also be read "power steering will be non functional" "brakes will be non functional".

oh, 49 CFR 571.105 section 5.1.3 would cover this. (basically brakes always work)

For the Tacomas it's pretty accurate.

The OP was only active for 2 days. Pretty sure that's the limit of his attention span.
