My best advice: wait 'til it's dark and raining, go out in your back yard, dig a hole big/deep enough to bury your whole spare tire in, bury it, dig it back up then fill the hole back in... you will know which shovel to get.

(Seriously though-real sand (the beach) long handled 'coal' shovel, everywhere else... long spade with both sides filed sharp for hacking)

By that standard I'm bringing an excavator.:D

I'd say bring whatever length handle is most comfortable for you to use .

Maybe, but I figure it's a truck chuck a real spade in the back, when you need one, you need one... a trowel, E-tool, garden shovel, multi-digger-convertible-axe, flashlight, salad spinner-thing, etc. just ain't gonna cut it, but to each his own.

I carry the good ol' folding shovel. I guess a fixed handle shovel would be a good thing, but I also use the folder when fishing to dig up worms right at the side of the stream, fits in cargo shorts or backpack. Whatever fish there are they jump fast on the red worms they're used to seeing. I use barbless hooks, catch your meal, let the rest go using forceps to cleanly extract the hook.

Flyfishing trout you catch the fish at the lip, worms they gulp them down into the throat, so barbless hooks are a must. If I'm keeping the fish I kill the fish fast after the catch. A quick crush of the skull. I won't gut a fish while it's still alive. Keeping them, I get them into the frying pan fast after the kill before rigor mortis sets in. I never have been a fan of taking fish back home in a cooler after a fishing trip. Catch and release, or fry it and eat it there.

Sounds like fun! Always wanted to fry a fish right after catching it when I camp, but I usually just let them go.

Brook trout (which isn't a trout, it's salmon family), thin-sliced taters fried with it, onions, mmm-mmm-mmm. Said Coleman stove mentioned above was a winner for doing that. I like brookies more than rainbows, German brown are ok, Arctic Char IMO are the best. Northern Pike is a nice meal. I have the trailer now, pic is about fifteen yards from a nice trout stream, and the trailer wasn't lifted then (definitely needed the lift).

I caught a decent silver drum at the beach last summer. The guys parked near us had a little gas grill. Gutted it, scaled it, stuffed it full of lemons, basted it with a little Corona... a memorable meal.

Bees are interesting critters. I had the dog's water dish out in AZ, bees were all over it after a few hours. They were drowning in it, so I put a paper towel on one side so they could climb out. There was hundreds of them around that dish. Nobody got stung but they were all over waiting for the chance to get a drink. Took the dish into the trailer to get rid of the bees but the bees knew where the water was, they were all over the trailer door and vents wanting some more. Had to throw the dish outside.

Has anyone bought a flat/open utility trailer and turned it into an enclosed camper?
