Help Me Mount Offroad Lights

Here is a suggestion on a rear facing light you might like. Night shots are tough but youll get the idea below.

These are awesome for rear facing lights up high and adjustable: www.betterbedlights.com/ They mount up near our 3rd brake lights...one of the best mods Ive done. This is also from a TW member on here.

 

I have them on my truck. They don't make wind noises, but people complain about the hood glare. Mine has amber lenses on em so it doesn't glare/bug my eyes (I use them for dust which is why they are amber), but if you want really bright white lights; those will blind you.

 

No wind noise and not much glare for me, but it all depends on how you angle them. I also really liked the position since I can adjust them really easily to point wherever I need.

 

2 other options are Tacoma beast makes a grill that holds light 2 led pods and BAMF makes a bracket to mount behind the grill.

 

Maybe you could use some of these tube clamp mounts. They're adjustable up and down. And mount it either above or below the winch fairlead. On the lower tubes each side of the fairlead. Above it(looks like it'll clear, if not just make some extensions) would look good I think.

Edit: check your tube diameter first. There's different diameter mounts available.

 

This was my solution: 2 small LED strips between the bumper and grill:



No posible wind noise, does not affect the aerodynamics, and un-obtrusive

 

Looking at it again you might be able to mount it on these tubes too for better clearance of the winch(with those tube mounts, or even tabs)and allow for a longer bar, plus being a lil bit higher. I'd go with a single row 10 watt bar in there myself.

Hell you could even mount it on those top bars with an even longer curved bar!

If you are talking about what is mounted in the lower driver-side bumper, yes, that is a horn-shaped speaker
that is connected to my CB's 'PA' outlet.

 

Didn't think about having a PA, who you be yelling out at out there?

 

The reason your son's light bar "pollutes" the windshield and hood is because he needs a plate under the light bar to block the light from hitting the hood/windshield, or the bar just needs to be aimed better. Some light bars come with them, but they are relatively easy to fabricate yourself, too.

For off-roading, the higher the light source, the better the light. The higher the light source, the fewer the shadows you get (like the sun). So, IMO, mounting a big ol light bar on your bumper/grill area just makes the same kind of light/shadows as your headlights - just brighter. Which, granted, is better than nothing, but IMO best to put the lights as high as possible.

ditch lights are great. No wind noise, light where you need it. And helps setting up camp at night.

I decide on ditch lights. I like they're adjustable for tasks while parked. I don't care for the aesthetics of ditch lights or the roof-mount light bars, but I'm more about function. Fook the way it looks.
