The ones on my '69 take 10 minutes, tops. And that includes the time spent gapping them, lol. Modern vehicles just aren't designed for the average Joe to work on. Replacing the starter in a Tundra 4.7, for instance, requires pulling the intake manifold. The first time I quoted that job the guy freaked out on me until I brought him out into the shop and showed him where his starter was located.

Haven't heard of any issues on the 2.7.

Some of the early production models had a problem with oil consumption (and the resulting rough idle & misfire due to fouled plugs) but they haven't had any other TSB/recalls that I'm aware of.

 

What year Tundra with a 4.7? My dad's 03 is right on the side, where you expect a starter to be. (But maybe not, he has never touched the starter on his truck.)

 

To my knowledge all of the 4.7's have the starter located under the manifold, but I haven't worked in a shop since late 2010 so no guarantees on the newer ones. But I don't see Toyota changing the casting after all that time.

 

Any of you guys get bed stiffeners? I have a Leer aluminum contractor cap and I'm going to be installing my RTT soon so I thought I may want to get them but I didn't know if ya'll thought it was needed or not.

I have an ARE cap on mine and when i installed my bed stiffeners the driverside was outa wack. Now they are good.

 

Ive got Bentrodder's , dont know if he is still making them or not. He was local at the time so I didnt have to pay shipping. Also liked that they didnt have a CB antenna mount on em since they are under my cap... truck was pretty new and I put em on before I put the cap on, but it did tighten the gap up a hair. If your gonna put a tent on top of the shell I would throw a set on, pretty reasonable price to pay just for the safety of it. There are some ugly photos of peoples bedside cracking

Having a Blais kind of day. @Mr.Miyagi amd I are helping @Blais03 on his big upgrade day. Here’s some sneak shots.

 

Yea I was going to pick up his as I like them the best from the looks of it.

 

I also liked that his go all the way up and tie into the upper bed bolts. Some of the newer ones - like caliraised- don’t.

Install was easy. I picked up some nyloc nuts for the back side of them

Here are mine when I installed them. Had to trim my Bamf antenna mount to make it fit but it works fine

 

I've been thinking about those things lately, mainly because of my cap. But I have a bed extender on there right now, and I don't think the stiffeners would work with that, and vice versa.

 

Yea that was the other thing I was thinking about was how to get my CB antenna mount to work since there seems like there would be a gap created by the bed stiffeners since it only covers one of the holes. I would move the antenna to the front bumper but I'd need to rig up something as the holes that seem to be for an antenna on my ARB bumper are quite large (maybe they're for lights )
