Remodeling the outside of the house. Took the shake shingle off the front of the house and replaced it with stone and stucco and put in a new driveway and entry.

Gotcha! I think the photo makes it look steeper than it is, but yeah it is steeper than I would prefer. Luckily I have another area I can work on the truck that is flat.

Back at the ranch we completed our skim coat sub-grading , vapour barrier and services pipework , scheduled to pour 12 yard skim coat Monday morning and then we finally get to frame the floor and get back to a normal job sequence

We re-purposed the old 6x6 timbers we took out of the house for all our posts and 6x6 beam extensions

Coming along nicely! Hit it with a wire wheel on a drill today. Gonna sand with 150 and 220 next. Not going for a mirror polish, just a clean finish

Started working on a workbench project from free pallet wood.

It sucks not having a circular/miter/sawzall or any kind of powered saw!
And before you ask, yes thats a bi-metal blade on my hack saw...

Anyone install a Smart Tstat with a furnace that is ~25 years old? Any HVAC guys in here?
Trying to install the Ecobee4 in my house. Below is the link to the instructions I have.

    https://support.ecobee.com/hc/en-us...-to-Install-ecobee3-lite-no-C-wire-available-

I am 99% sure i have no C-wire. (I thought blue was it, but when I tried it, nothing turned on.)

I'm having an issue on Step 8-10 or so. Mainly because the my control board doesn't match that the directions are saying. The picasso MS Paint is the best way I can throw out the diagram. I also brought down the wiring diagram from the furnace. I can't mess with it much more tonight. Kids are getting ready for bed and its 48 here. For the night I hooked up the old tstat so I have heat.

    1. I need a common wire. I thought the blue one that runs to the tstat but isn't used might've been it, but when I wired it up, and plugged the furnace in, nothing turned on.
    2. Step 12 is confusing to me because the 5 wires on the PEK unit provided by Ecobee (Y, W, G, C, R) don't match what I have on my control board. (W, G, B/C, R, X)

Check the furnace side. Is the blue wire connected to anything there? That's probably your problem. Connect it to the c terminal on the furnace. Too many beers into the evening to comprehend whatever is going on in 1 and 2 but check the furnace side. If it wasn't connected at t-stat side it most likely wasn't connected at furnace either.

Edit: pics loaded. Blue is your C.

Well....I assumed blue was my C and hooked it up and it didn’t power.

I’ll try it again tomorrow morning.

I put a smart thermostat on my 30 year old furnace before replacing it last year.

As mentioned the B/C connection is your C wire.

When you said you hooked it up and it didn’t work, did you have any of the connections hooked up from the instructions link you posted? The PEK instructions you linked were for furnaces without a C wire.

No. When I tried it via the C wire way I referred to the book that shows me how to hook it up with the actual C wire.

Now that I got to sleep on it, I was playing it safe and flipped the breaker for tr AC AND unplugged the furnace and when I attempted it the c wire way, I plugged in the furnace but just remembered I never reflipped the breaker back on.

I'm curious, is your skim coat a code thing on the coast? I've seen it done, but code for us in the central provinces is just pea gravel launched in and spread out.. I imagine it could get expensive with any real grade..
Just read through the forum and I have to say, very cool projects, and excellent work!. I've been framing the rebuild in northern Ab, post fire, and the workmanship makes me sick, on a daily..

I'm trying to break into finishing, mostly for warm winter work, but also the knowledge.. Having a hand in a project beginning to end seems desirable, and I like zero-tolerance building. My +/- <1/16" is not appreciated here, lol

Well I got the feature wall done this morning and after spending a few hours mapping out the largest lines and making them dead on accurate, the rest flew up with the help of some jigs (and my wife). Homeowners are very very pleased.
