Were you saying that prinsu, or cbi or whoever is making them now make one specifically cut down for a habitat? I thought you were referring to the one AT sells.

thanks for getting pics. i currently have a frontrunner rack and was considering doing the same thing. figured it would be more hassle to pull the thing, sell, then buy and install the short rack AT sells.

Yes, Prinsu makes a rack for the habitat, the goose gear build has it, though that's a 3rd gen. It's not listed on their site, and cbi doesn't make it yet. I was told to call to order it, which I've been meaning to do once my bank account settles down.

EDIT: Sorry I was wrong, I thought it was available but apparently it's "still in development"

Even though they did in fact make one for a 3rd gen already, and its the same thing for 2nd... IDK!

My first car was the family Astro van. Wish it had been AWD, would have been such a blast.

Front Runner says they can sell a 29” long rack that will mount to the roof rails. Not sure if that’s short enough to accommodate the Habitat overhang.

Thanks for the heads up. I wasn't aware of that but I think cause I have a short bed tyre overhang will still be more. I'll have to do some investigating

Got the exterior L track mounted today... Not easy taking a 3/8 drill bit to the outside walls but by the 40th hole it was getting easier, still have to do the roof.

Can you do a short video walkthrough of the new habitat walls? I'm wondering if there are any strength issues and whether or not I should make some shims for the L Track.

Do you expect to have any issues with water intrusion now that you have penetrated the exterior?

What do you want to know? Can get pictures or details of whatever you would like... What type of shim are you thinking of?

Juniper overland is just outside Denver, they sell habitats and would be happy to let you see one of theirs I’m sure.

I recently ordered my Habitat from Chris at Juniper. Great guy and great company! They are the outfitting side for Rocky Mountain Four Wheel Campers.

That's production model 1. Putting an aircraft L track across the side is not going to mount flush. I want to see if the aluminum is flat throughout inside and out on the side panel. This is why a short video would be more useful than a few pictures.

I have never posted a video before besides on youtube and that always ends up taking longer than I would like..

Still not sure Im following ya... If mounting on the exterior walls of the habitats with the panel inserts such as the one you posted a picture of, It shouldn't need a shim afaik as long as you mounted it where I did as it would not be in the area of the panel.

Not sure if the interior walls were different on the models with the panel inserts. My interior walls are completely "flat" as you can see in this pictureDSC_1845.jpg

EDIT : Also, to be clear, my version has a double layer wall on the sides. Not sure if the versions with the white panel are the same in that regard.

The ‘panel’ is a large rectangular honeycomb interior piece that is about an inch thick. It spans the entire side of the habitat on the inside.
