Just got a Tacoma and I'm thinking about going to this to learn more about overlanding and offroading in general. Can anyone who has gone in the past comment about their experience?

I've never been but have heard great things about it. I'll be going out with a group from Overland Bound most likely.

My GF and I will be there. We volunteer for the event. Last year was our first time. It’s a great time.

If you plan on camping, the “on site” gets very packed. If you know the area I would consider finding somewhere else to camp.

Bring a variety of clothes. It was pretty cold and windy at times last year.

I'll be staying onsite. My first time and I asked if there plenty of space for camping. I was told yes and just to bring some stakes to mark my camping "spot" in case I leave to explore the city. Have you had any experience with it being over crowded ?

Well last year was the Expos first time at this venue. They may have changed things. Last year the “on-site” camping was a fenced in area and reminded me of an apartment complex. I’m sure it was cool to have people to talk with or share drinks/bbq with but we stayed for 3-4 days so I didnt want to deal with it.

I'll be onsite as well. First time going. I'm just going to sleep in the back of my 80. I'm going to have 34 days to get it from bone stock to completely ready.

Completely ready for what exactly? Are you going wheeling while you’re out there?

I'll be doing wheeling on my way up and back from Tucson. I want to figure out cargo storage and comfortable sleeping. I have a lift to install, 35s, bumper, roof basket, probably stereo... and booze to stock up on if that's allowed.

It sounds like a fun event, but for the money I'd spend just to attend I can't justify why I wouldn't just go on two trips of my own.

True, but I'd rather see some cool parts of the country.
