What do you guys think the odds are Toyota offers the MT in SR5 in 2019?

I don't wanna pay extra for all the TRD stuff that I'm going to swap out anyways....

    Help me out Toyota!

What stuff? I'm actually pretty happy with most if not all of it.
    - The Bilstein shocks are surprisingly good
    - Rear locker
    - A-TRAC
    - I actually use the built in nav
    - The rims and tires are totally fine until you decide to upgrade

You might still be able to locate a new leftover 2017 SR Manual.

I think that’s unlikely, but always worth a try. On cargurus nationwide search, only found 2 used 17, but with 1-7k miles. Probably an owner who thought that could make an MT work but couldn’t.

My guess is that by 2020 there will be no manual Tacos.

I'd be REALLY surprised. The 2nd gen lasted 11 years, so 3rd gen should go at least 10. They developed the new 6MT for it based on owner feedback and it's a fucking sweet trans. Seatbelt Mike went on record saying he was a big fan.

I didn't want to pay the TRD premium either, but there was no way I was buying this truck with an A/T.

I like my taint heaters just fine now though :D

Yeah, but the 2.7L 5-sp manual went only 2 model years into this gen. They've had those since the inception of the Tacoma model. I actually WOULDN'T be surprised if the option was dropped in the next few years.

I agree, they are phasing out the MTs. Simplifies the production line too, which yota is all about.

True - only "but" there is the 5 speed was a legacy transmission, so I have hope for the 6MT. But you could be right.

The way it was explained to me about Tacoma Production was they build all the same configuration models for a set period of time then switch to another. Example would be all access cab automatic for a week then switch to double cab manual for a week, that is supposed to take variables out of the production process. They probably will unfortunately drop the Manual when the 4th Gen comes along.

Yes, that's my understanding as well, but if they remove the manual, that's less switching.

Right, that makes sense, but they also spent money to develop the new 6 Speed and they only run manuals down the line once every 3 months so it's not like they are switching daily and they probably use the switch time for maintenance anyway so they are not really losing any time.

They should have spent more money on developing the deterrent to R.

I had hoped they produced MTs more often than that. But again if it's so few, why bother when selling so many Autos. I also wonder how the SAfety Sense stuff interacts with the MT compared to the AT.

Fear not they will still make the Mts till they run out of sunglass holders.

I was always curious how the TSS automatic braking would work with a Manual, I guess the engine just stalls out if you can't get the clutch pushed in.
