Let us not loose site of the fact that the real value of these new lower arms would be the uniball design to eliminate the stock LBJ. That in itself is enough reason right there for running them.

And if you ask 10 guys about regearing, you'll likely get 10 different perspectives. Here is mine. 4.56s with the 5 speed will be enough if your truck does not get heavy or you do not need to go really slow out on the trail. Otherwise go 4.88s. If I had a 5 speed I would still go 4.88s knowing what know now.

 

Still 4 bolts holding it to the spindle, or fabbed spindle, whereas the cost would make no sense.

I still will say there's no LBJ 'problem', just something you have to keep up on. $1500+ on new LCAs versus checking you bolts and LBJs occasionally, I'll be sticking with stock lowers.

 

I just went through the same decision you are - I've got the MT and 33's now and knew it was between 4.56 and 4.88's. Ultimately, I went with 4.88's and I'm glad I did. The truck just feels "peppy" again. And gas mileage isn't all that much worse - in fact, it's comparable to what I was getting on 4.10's (the 33's are what kill the mpg's).

I figured that I'd rather err on overgearing slightly, so that I wouldn't run the risk of having to regear again in the future (I have no plans to go to 35's).

 

I didn't see a price point listed with that announcement. Do you know something the rest of us don't?

Failure of the 4 mounting bolts is not the problem.

 

That's the going rate for stock length uniball lowers for 2nd gens. Don't see why these would be any different.


Also, those uniballs hate mud, and the lowers end up way more susceptible than in our UCAs. The guys that I know running them are dealing with constant squeaking and replacing uniballs at least once a year.

I disagree. having a LCA that is setup to run a better bump stop and secondary already could very well be worth it to some.

it'll feel almost exactly like Frank regear in terms of pep and torque. When Brett and I did the crawl race i was just BARELY slower.

 

I was going by what it looked like in the picture. Looks like a uniball to me.

 

I guess for me if I did add a failsafe dimension to the lbj that would be enough for me. If however it effectively lengthens the wheel base and makes it cruise down the highway better, that would also be enough for me. If it does neither of of these things then it is useless to me.

I guess 4.88’s are my long term objective then, because if I knew how to weld, I’d probably go straight to 35’s. Cuz as Will Smith said, “ it’s just for the look, I don’t light it.”

Its not. There are other photos and it looks identical to my LT adapters.

 

If you go to 35s(which really? You don't seem like you'd need 35s?) go for 5.29s hands down.

 

I wouldn't want to drive around for very long without 35's on 5.29's though...

You just don't seem like the person who does the kind of wheeling that would see much benefit from them is all i meant. 33s are perfect for these rigs. Not saying I don't love 35s, just saying that with the investment of 35s its often not worth it for most.
