    Hi,

I'm going to retire and figured I'd replace my 15 SR5 with an 18 OR. I wanted to load it up but to get Leather, heated seats, dual climate & etc., it look like I also get a moon roof. At 6' 3" my head hits the roof where the tracks are, If the seats lowered I'd be OK but they don't. My old truck is in perfect shape, the reason to replace it is to get more bell and whistles, and a "New" truck.

    My Question:
Can I special order one with the premium package but no sun roof?

    Thanks,
    Doug

When I was shopping for a 17 few months ago, that wasn’t an option. Unfortunately. I’d have thought the Limited would have come with power seats which would have solved your problem but no go. I recently tested a 4Runner with a sunroof and power seats and loved the gobs of head room.

Sounds like you need to check out the TRD Pro.

I have the exact same problem. I think I'm waiting for a 2019 to see if they switch around the packages. I'm only 6'1 and it's s problem for me. At 6'3 I couldn't imagine how bad it would be for you. Is nobody at Toyota over 6 feet tall? My wife's rav4 has a moonroof and I have loads of room to spare.

    hey Doug,

i also wanted the moonroof but on a loaded truck, then the Pro came out and i wanted one for the trim level mostly... but no moonroof option. i thought i would miss the venting above. i always loved the tilting glass and how it helped airflow.

on the newer trucks you now get the electric sliding rear glass, which i found provides the exact same effect for me, and it's just as easy to use. i have not missed the moonroof once, and i have much more headroom now which is worth paying for since I'm tall as well. just 0.02. good luck.

The Pro is the only way you can get leather without the sunroof

I'm 6'4" and I fit in both, which leads me to believe that it's more of a body type (long waisted, shorter legs, etc) more than total height that allows a good "fit" into a vehicle. However, I do of course have more headroom in the one with out the sunroof.

It also has a LOT to do with the individual position that the driver thinks is comfortable. I'm sure I would be uncomfortable driving a vehicle that was adjusted for another 6'4" driver. I'm sure they would be uncomfortable driving mine without making adjustments. Everybody likes different seat back angles, different distance from the steering wheel, etc. I'm sure you would fit just fine if you would angle the seat back a bit, except it would be uncomfortable for you right?

When looking at moonroof vs. not, I looked like a big difference outside the vehicle. Once I drove both, I couldn't tell the difference. I wanted a TRD. At 6' even I'm ok, not sure about 6'3".

Thanks all, I did consider the Pro, White - Black - and Blah Blue....I could maybe settle for the White but not the others.... and I don't really want to settle @45K+...
This kind of stinks, I want a new Truck but cant get what I want... I looked at a Chevy...nah....lol

I've been driving Toyota trucks since 85 but I wish they would rethink the options and the colors.... A nice dark green or green mica...oh well.....

Thanks again... I may just toss a little money at the 15 and call it a day....

None of what you said like price or color was in your original post. You said tall and everyone answered.

To give you some hope, you CAN custom order your package without the moon roof. I am also 6'3, and when I tested my first '16 Tacoma, my head constantly rubbed on the bottom of the ceiling. So I told my dealer I wanted everything else but not the moon roof. My advantage: I purchased from the largest volume dealer in the state - and my salesman told me that they can make special requests because of the number of trucks they push. It took three months, but I got exactly what I'd been dreaming about.

Couple guys our size have said they fit, couple said no...Is your head real close on the left side? Do you have the seat reclined back real far? For me, I had to have the seat reclined so far back that when I looked to my left I was right in line with the door pillar seriously blocking my view to the left.

That's encouraging... since some people seem to fit and a special deal can be made, I think I should take another trip to the dealer. The one I went to owns three others so they should be moving a lot of stock and I'm in no hurry. ERE109, what state are you in?

My guess is, he has an AC, not a double cab.

...except you can't special order say, a Limited without a sunroof.
Look, there have been several threads on this topic recently (and I'm tall so I read them) and the consensus is, most tall people fit. Now, you might have to change your driving position a bit from your last vehicle. You might have to change the way you get in and out of your vehicle compared to the last vehicle you had. I had to change the way I got into the Tacoma versus the 4Runner I had before. I also now ride a bit more reclined than I did in the 4Runner.

Fortunately, we are all different and some "short" people at 6' tall have complained they don't fit. The only thing I can think is they have REALLY short legs and a REALLY long torso. There also have been guys who posted that they were 6'6" and fit... with a sunroof!

Bottom line, it depends on you. If you really want a Tacoma, go sit in one that has all the things you want. Start adjusting the steering wheel, the seat bottom, the seat back and getting out of and into the vehicle. IF you can find a comfortable position, test drive again. Remember there are many people taller than you that enjoy these trucks.

FWIW even though I am 6'4", my seat bottom is not all the way back. My seat back is not as reclined as much as when my wife drives it and she is only 5'9". My steering wheel is full up and full out. And yes, the left side of the top of my head is close, close enough that I take my hat off to drive.

If you don't fit, enjoy the test and move on to something you are more comfortable in. No worries!

My AC prem does not have a moon roof but it also doesn't have leather, only heated seats and dual climate.

I agree, but that would not jive with the story though since he test drove one with a Sunroof and asked for the same truck minus the sunroof unless they got him a Pro.
