Rear end slip after I come to a stop??

Hi All,

I have an 09 4X2 extended cab Tacoma that when the gas tank is about 3/4 full I get a slight slip in the rear after a stop. It takes a split second to feel but it's there. I've taken the truck to the dealer a couple times and they have looked at it and said nothing is loose, nor do they feel the slip.
Anyone else feel or experience this?

I have that too. Feels like the truck lurches forward after I come to a stop. I asssume it is the gas sloshing around in the tank.

 

That's what I figure it must be as everything else has been ruled out..

 

Hi Rideski, this is a very common ocurance with the second gen Tacomas and my wifes Odyssey does it as well. Although it may not be considered "normal" it is normal.

The popular theory is that it is the AC compressor activating and it is discussed at length in this thread...

All I can say is that you will get used to it. My '07 did it and at first it was disconcerting. My new '10 does it in the exact same fashion and I simply don't notice it anymore but every now and again it will remind me at the coffee shop drive thru.

Though this happens to me also, it's not what I'm thinking he's describing. What I was talking about happens about 1 second after stopping....every time I stop.

Agreed..it's about a second after stopping.

 

If I have AC on or the heater in one of the two defrost modes my engine will sometimes surge a bit after a stop in order to keep up the RPMs when the AC compressor kicks in. My manual did this too but the surge was no big deal with a clutch. However, sometimes with a light foot on the brake my new auto will try to move forward. Therefore, at stops I now make sure to add a bit more brake pressure to prevent this.

 

I guess it has to be the compressor ... because I have a manual, and never sit in gear at a stop (duh), and have never felt this.
