Has anyone successfully added a locker to their third gen sports on here?

Sport hood = cheaper than locker if you’re really that serious. Are you an engineer by chance?

To quote smitty99 from another thread:

“I don't think the user will need a locker for his described uses anyway.... a locker is usually only necessary in fairly extreme conditions”

If its any consolation, i owned 4Runners with the same locker from 2011 to 2017. I off road more than most and never needed it. I also live in the mountains with lots of snow. Never needed it. I take my sport off road all the time. Not needed it yet. Now, i dont rock crawl and i take the easy way instead of the hard way when off road but that's just me. If i want to take the hard way i will just use the 4 wheeler.
My point? The locker is a tool in the toolbox. Its one that gets used last, when all else fails. It also does not guarantee unsticking you.

If you want that tool, get an OR. If not, get a Sport. I do not need that tool and i wanted a more road worthy Tacoma so i got a sport.

I think you are having analysis paralysis lol.

Thanks man. So wait do all 4runners have a locker? Or just off road versions. Couple guys at my work have 4runners and I wondered if they did.

I believe hiPSI speaks for everyone here. Well said with definitive explanations. Good luck with your purchase. You'll be happy with whatever you choose, particularly when it's time to trade in, or pass it down.

Skewp. Just told dealer to go with the sport. Picking her up hopefully next week. Thanks for all the help, it’s been a learning experience. But hey, at the end of the day, at least I didn’t get the 4x2, right? I kid, I kid. Just happy to soon be a part of the taco family.

Was a no brainer for me. Scoop and sport tuned suspension vs Locker and OR suspension. Even though I don't typically off road so no real need for the locker but I'd rather have something I don't need but could use rather than the aesthetics of a fake scoop. The OR suspension is nice to have when navigating the wintet pot holes in the northeast.

You guys realize you can buy a better aftermarket locker if you want and decide to go off roading, right? A trend I’m noticing is the OR guys act like having a locker means they have a humvee or something. We’re talking about 4x4 trucks here. Not a 4x2.

so you have a less attractive truck but a locker you’ll never use. Seems legit.

Yes the 4x4 sport is only for looks and can’t off road at all. (Sarcasm) You can upgrade later if you get into serious off roading. Did you read the entire thread?

Unless I just got sarcastically trolled.

you can paint black flares for cheap and always add a scoop hood if you need them

Easier to make an OR look like a Sport than it is to make a Sport into an OR.
