Yep! They discontinued it in 2000 I believe. Otherwise it's a 2.4l 4 Cylinder.

 

450K miles! Damn!

 

Right? It still works perfectly fine. No problems whatsoever besides being run down and worn out. I think the closest thing to mechanical damage is a clogged EGR valve.

 

Does the A/C still work?

 

Actually I forgot about that. The climate control doesn't work at all - blower motor doesn't turn on and the temperature and vent control knows are jammed. AC Button turns on though.

 

Not like you need A/C in San Fran though...

 

Trust me you do. And the heater.

If you want the good weather Los Angeles is the place to go. Lol.

 

You should fix it...

A/C in my truck started blowing warm on the passenger side, and I took it in to get charged within a week...

 

Trying to figure out what exactly is wrong with it. The one in the '98 was cable driven so there's tons of parts that can break. It could be the blower motor resistor.

 

What's the transmission issue?

 

And this truck passes California's bullshit smog testing?

 

It pretty sure it will once I fix the EGR valve. The catalytic converter was replaced less than 5 years ago under warranty from Toyota.

 

I hate emissions testing...

Just give me beans for dinner and I'll produce more emissions than even the most poorly maintained vehicle!

 

California is the strictest. You can't do engine swaps (without strict regulation) you can't tamper with the factory intake or exhaust system without CARB certified equipment, blah blah blah it goes on forever.

 

There's no antique vehicle exemption...

All vehicles 1976 and newer must pass smog! My uncle cheated the system and registered his '77 VW Westfalia camper at his brother's house in Texas to circumvent this...

 

The People's Republic of Commiefornia sucks!

 

You also can't mix and match truck and car engines or use engines not sold in the USDM. You have to retain all of the original emissions equipment too.
