I noticed this this sludge a little while ago in the oil neck underneath the cap, but it wasn't nearly this bad....
I didn't think too much of it because when I checked it I knew I use the truck to commute which is an 8 minute drive time, 15-20 minutes total per day. I know that moisture gets into the plastic oil neck and if the engine doesn't get to operating temp it won't allow burn off/evaporation.

However when checking it today-- bear in mind I drove for the better part of an hour and the truck was fully warmed up, I popped the cap off after getting home and saw this (pictured below)....

Is this due to the VERY SHORT commutes, and am I able to unscrew the neck, take it off and clean the sludge out and then watch it from here on out or should I be more concerned with any water/coolant in the engine mixing with the oil?

The dipstick does NOT have any sludge on it FWIW
I've been noticing it's a bit sluggish to start up when cold FYI
Also the truck is ~500 miles away from hitting 60k

Just to be sure I'm thinking right, this is the overload right?
    20180303_094859.jpg

Will this change any important angles of the rear axle as it pertains to the drive shaft?

Hmm I'm not sure. The one in the picture from Headstrong actually looks curved. Someone else should chime in soon but think the 3rd from the bottom might be it.

A little oil buildup is normal on an air cooled engine, not so much on ours. I’d imagine you may get a little bit of it from short commutes when the truck is not warm, but that looks like Jiff peanut butter. I think you may have a little more of a problem at hand

That’s what I was thinking. A little is okay but when I saw that I was like “okayyyyy this is picture worthy for the guys on TW

The coolant level is the same so idk how or why this would be happening then... I might take the neck off and clean it, then watch and see what’s going on. Possibly start and let the truck warm up before driving it? I don’t know

@nazlax10 I have Dakars that I bought from Toytec. Their instructions stated that the 2nd leaf from the bottom could be removed for light bed load applications, and/or to reduce the overall lift height

I would take the neck off like you said, clean it, and then check it daily to see what the rate of build up is. It could be an early sign of a head gasket, doesn’t take much coolant to whip up the oil like that. You said you’re having a loss of power as well?

Most people use a roof basket I would assume and strap the trie in the basket.

    I’ll clean it and watch.
Only on cold start ups, I feel as if it struggles just a little bit more in turning over and starting.

Washed, waxed and detailed the Taco. Added the forbidden oiled air filter (been using them for 20 + years, haven’t had an issue yet) MPG went from 19.17 on the first tank to 19.82 on the second fill up. Ordered 4 PCs (group recommended brand) spider trax 1.25” wheel spacers. And I ordered a front level kit, got to save for a few months for the 5100’s with OME springs and UCA’s. Oh and ordered led interior lights!! Hahahahaha

Edit: also....ordered the Ram mount and fetched the M6 bolt etc... to mount my phone from the O Shit handle.

I washed, clay barred, polished, and waxed my 2013 Tacoma. Also put this epic canopy on it the day beforehand.

Last week I installed the Pro suspension with a wheelers 1.5 AAL.
