So today I test drove and looked at a 2018 diesel Colorado. All said and done I would be spending 10K out of pocket. I would love some reasons as to why I should or shouldn’t pull the trigger on a Chevy. My truck is a 2015 TRD OR 4x4 5spd, 40K in the odo, with mid travel suspension, bumpers, skids etc. I don’t tow but I travel a lot on the highway to get to Utah and Nevada from California’s coast so Mpgs are a bit important. I get 16MPGs average in the Taco with my lift and 32 inch KO2s. Thanks for the advice!

not saying it’ll happen, but if you decide to switch back because you don’t like the Chevy, it costs more than 10k. Test drive the shit out of that thing... 10k is a lot of cash.

Is the only reason you are considering switching is the MPG?

I know 2 guys with the Colorado diesel, they both like it. One came from a Jeep the other from F150. So they aren't really the best judges.

    So I’m hearing

Reasons for not buying: reliability, bow tie emblem, resale, diesel

Reasons to buy: mpg, good deal, diesel

Whats the cost of diesel vs unleaded where you are? Is it worth factoring it?

Yeah, after factoring in DEF it’s still cheaper per mile. 3.259 for regular 3.459 for diesel.

Like others have said: your truck, your money.

You can never be sure of what you'll get. Some folks have to take their vehicles in constantly, others don't. It seems like Chevy/Ford are brought into the shop more than Toyotas, but that is probably anecdotal.

I think it would cost me 10K to bring it back to stock especially with my frame modifications lol. The 1GR has been nothing but reliable, albeit thirsty. I’ll mull it over and crunch the numbers but I think reliability issues are making me lean towards keeping my truck. Thanks for your thoughts everyone!

I've owned 2 Chevy's (96 Impala SS and a 2011 Traverse) in the past 22 years that made it to 200k or more before trading in, the only thing either needed was water pumps both around 150k. I also owned 2 Pontiac GTO's and put over 150k on each (I'm a salesman, hence the username) and neither had ONE single hiccup. I know it's cliche to bash domestics but from my experience GM products are great. To be honest, the Tacoma that we purchased for my youngest a little over a year back has given me more trouble (70k miles) than anything that we have had in a long while....AC Compressor, Alternator, Damn Rust, etc., all within one FREAKIN YEAR!!!
