I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
Well we had a great day. Today was the pinewood derby for Jacobs cub scout troop and he did awesome. Last year he did good , he got 1st place in his troop and 3rd place overall but today was awesome. He got 1st place in his troop and 1st place overall!

I built 3 cars total. One for Jacob, one for Sophia (she decorated it herself) and one for me! Tons of fun!

Do you still get to hit the wheels with graphite for that extra speed? Actually not sure if that was really legal?

    And congratulations to your son!!

I know, I know, but I needed a half ton.
We were able to graphite them when I was in scouts. The real secret was smoothing the nails where they went through the tires.

Yea put the nail in a power drill and sand paper the part closer to the nail head where the tire goes. Also file off any burrs by the head. my brothers and I were usually in the top 3 spots every year. Makes a huge difference.

I was talking to a guy at my office who has kids in scouts now. Apparently there is a market online for buying shaved wheels and better nails for axels. Kind of defeats the purpose of doing it yourself at home to me.

Evening y'all! Girlfriend is doing work, so I'm looking at what to spend my money on next! I'm thinking sliders and skids. I just need it to warm up enough to install these new lights!

IFS skid, and mid skid for sure. Gas tank skid? Rear skid? Any others?

Gas tank skid could be useful depending on where you're wheeling, if there's a lot of deadfall/slash on the ground, there's always the possibility of something kicking up the right way and puncturing the tank. I've heard the rear skid isn't really necessary, that our rear axles are plenty stout already.

Diff skid is unnecessary. Pumpkin is thicker than any skids. Only thing to possibly worry about is the rear which is thin. But many companies make a guard you weld onto the back which doesn't cut into ground clearance and look like a metal diaper

IFS, mid, and trans skids. Full set is 3 skids. Gas tank skid is a good idea

So it sounds like the rear skid isn't necessary. Well that just saved me a couple hundred bucks and about 50lbs!

Looks like the mid skid protects the transmission. Pelfreybilt only had IFS, mid, gas tank, and rear. I don't really need to go with them, just started looking there.

If I want the gas tank skid I'll need the gas tank straps from a TRD offroad.
