Unless I needed diesel for towing, I'd stay gas.

How many miles would you have to drive to make up that $10k difference in price?

Have you calculated the total cost per mile: fuel, maintenance, insurance? How much are you going to spend on aftermarket items: suspension, armor, etc? How badly will this affect the MPG? Best to do this and figure out what is actually more cost effective. My guess is that you're better off financially sticking with the Tacoma, if only because of the money you already have invested in it.

    Just my two cents.

If it's just for mpgs and it's not cost efficient to stock your taco, spend 10 k on used fuel efficient car for travel. Or is a truck needed?

Agreed, often times the cherry really isn’t so sweet once you factor in all costs. The Tacoma’s strong point is longevity and reliability. You’re just barely scratching that value right now. $10k is a lot of gas dollars if that’s the major factor.

Limited parking areas in my neighborhood and I already have a work truck to store but otherwise...

800 dollars a year in savings so 160K miles is the break even. But I reset the ODO back to zero which has a worth.

After researching Chevy reliability and EPA rated diesel component failures I’m probably keeping my truck until there’s a Tacoma diesel. Is there anyone on the forums that’s owned both? I’d love to hear their opinion

if your worried about getting the best MPGs from your Taco you shouldn't have mounted Goodyear TKOs and all the body armor, these are not fuel conserving mods :
TRD OR SB 4x4 Vehicle Modifications:Relentless: sliders, custom baja bumper and ifs skid. Black snugtop. Method standards. BFG KO2s. Diff breather. Custom exhaust plumbing. All Pro Lola mid travel kit with light duty leaf pack. Steel braided brake lines.

I would only get it if I needed to tow, otherwise stick with the Taco, it'll be faster too than the diesel Colorado! :burnrubber:

I’d say it’s not about getting the best MPGs but having a capable truck that doesnt suck at the pump as soon as you add a little weight to it. I got 17.8mpgs before any mods so it wasn’t great to begin with. It’s frustrating knowing there’s a really efficient option out there that satisfies my needs but is a gamble reliability wise

Stock with a camper shell for now.
Diesel cost twice as much for maintenance and repairs. Let’s see some pics of your tacoma sounds like a sweet rig

A diesel is only happy running it balls to the wall. Just stop and go driving will stop up the diesel particulate filter, $2,000 dollars to replace. I bought my wife as a retirement gift a new 2011 SS Camaro because it looked so good. Big mistake. Torque converter would not lock up causing severe vibration. Mechanic said it was normal. Service dept was terrible. Traded it and took a $8000 loss. I will never stray from Toyota or Honda again. Your Tacoma has THE highest trade in value of any vehicle. You'll loose your ass when you trade your chevy in and you as a car salesman should already know that.

It did it at 45mph, the very speed you drive the most around town. It felt like you were running over tiny speed bumps. it was unacceptable to me for a $40K car. When you washed it you could not spray water around the windows because it leaked. The heater core was leaking and soaked the passengers floor board. They had to pull the whole dash out and the windsheild to fix it and the dash rattled like hell after that. Don't tell me about a chevy.

I have a family member with the last gen Colorado with that odd ball 5 cylinder motor. I've narrowed a few times while visiting on vacation. It's been a good truck for them. Not enough truck capability for my needs. No idea how I'd like the new ones or not. A friend got one (gas) and it was in the shop a lot at first but it was the brand new model year release lol.
