    It’s sweet but maybe that’s what I enjoyed about it. I’m also a sucker for rye whiskey.

    I tend to find most bourbons sweet and it didn’t seem much more than the Eagle Rare I’ve been enjoying. And not as sweet as Jim Beam.

    If I want dry I drink scotch!

    The problem I have is that my Bourbon collection is consistently diminishing, even as I'm expanding it :laugh:

    Personally I don't think they leave it in the cask long enough. I've had the Guinness pairing and there's very little Guinness flavor to it; just tasted like Jameson to me, so I don't think it's worth the extra $$ and I haven't wanted to buy any of the others because of it.

    I love Angel’s Envy rye. One of the best finishes ever, in my opinion. I need to get another bottle.

    How do you like the Basil Dark Rye? I have an bottle of it from Christmas that I haven't opened yet. Picked up a bottle of Elijah Craig this weekend.

    Since I’m still new to drinking whiskey, I tried to find a bottle of Buffalo Trace and Eagle Rare - but apparently the state is having a hard time getting it...damnit.

    Looks like I may have to travel across state lines to get it.

    I did pick up a bottle of Elijah Craig, and I have to say - it’s pretty good. Laphroaig 10 was also marked down from $69 to $39 as a sale, so I got a bottle of that also.

    That's the same problem I have! I found there are two keys to prevent this;

    1) buy more than 1 bottle of the same. For example, Blantons only comes out in small batches every few months. My min number on hand is 2 bottles. When I get below that I drink less of it and move to others until I can get it back up to par. Notice the back row in the picture. I have 2 Hibiki Harmony and 1 Blanton in boxes. I have to admit I've gone from zero to a hundred in a very short time when it comes to drinking decent whiskey. I never knew how good American bourbon and whiskey was!

    :spending:

    2) keep buying bottles I haven't tried yet. Drink it about half way through (see WhistlePig in pic), then buy something else (just picked up the Angels Envy rye yesterday).

    My tequila stock is being crowded out and will need to be relocated to a lower shelf soon!

    My solution is that I also drink rum and tequila, and once in a blue moon I'm in the mood for vodka or gin :laugh:

    So I ended up getting a bottle of the AE rye and it is really good! I also didn't find it too sweet. Taste is such a subjective thing and when reading reviews it's hard to know what to believe. It is nothing like dessert wine (which a few reviewers had said). It has a little sweetness, spicy/peppery thing going on that works very well.

    We had some friends over for dinner last night. One of the guys drinks nothing but old fashions, so I keep Bullit on hand as a mixer. He actually wanted to try the rye and thought it was fantastic with a splash of water.

    I have to say I've become a big fan of rye just from trying the AE and WhistlePig. I saw a Canadian rye on the shelf - Lot 40 Canadian Rye - that has won high awards and is well rated. May put that on the list for future consideration.

    Lol. My dad used to drive semi trucks into Mexico to my cousins cabinet factory. Became friends with the guys there. They would occasionally give him nice bottles of tequila, but he doesn't really like tequila, so they would just accumulate in his cabinet. He decided to clean up and I inhereted about half of them. Some of these you can't get on this side of the border. These are some of those;

    I'd be lying if I said I wasn't looking forward to trying some small-batch local Tequilas when the GF and I go to Utah later this month. We're flying into Vegas so I'm planning on finding a liquor store on our way out to Brian Head.

    My Dad, Brother and I love Bourbons and whiskeys.. Angels Envy, Elijah Craig, Basil Hayden Bookers, Eagle Reserve ... Knob Creek as a daily!! My brother moved out to Pittsburgh (from Philly area) about a year and a half ago and stumbled on Wigle. I've only had their Pennsylvania Bourbon its pretty tasty! Its a cool little Distillery. If you ever get a chance give them a shot!

    I was in Louisville a couple months back and stopped in at Angel's Envy. I needed to pick up another bottle of the Rye since I couldn't find it anywhere else. When I was talking to a guy that worked there, he mentioned that they bottle the Rye 2 times a year, and I was at the tail end of that (explains why I couldn't find any). I want to say they bottle sometime in the summer, and another in the fall, but don't quote me on that.

    The Rye is finished in rum casks, which is where it gets it's sweetness from. They have another that is finished in port casks, but you are talking ~$200/bottle. I prefer the rye (in rum casks) to the port, but to each their own.

    I am a huge fan of the AE rye, and try to always have a bottle in-stock. I don't drink it all that often, but when I do...I appreciate it.

    I made quite a few friends in Vegas at a conference when I was offering AE rye to people. It was a good (and fast) way to make friends with people I wanted to get to know better. The ones who knew whiskey were very happy to have some. Those that didn't know...were very impressed with the flavor.
