Yea sharpish I think Im settled on the fact that if I were to get it that converting would not be wise so im just curious to see what people think on the purchase of it with the description I gave, but thanks tho

If it's a 5 lug only real way to convert would be to do a solid axle swap if it were a prerunner like Chad's then it's easier since that is essentially the 2wd version of a 4x4. There are threads on converting the prerunners to a 4x4 you essentially can use all factory toyota parts. Rock Solid Toys on their website has one of the best prerunner to 4x4 write ups. But a bunch of guys have done it. The solid axle swap is extremely involved and would take months to do the prerunner to 4x4 if you have all the parts in hand ready to go and a couple guys to help if you thrashed hard could be done in a weekend or 2.

We've had a couple of guys wheel with us with 2wd prerunners and their only set back was a couple of steep hill climbs with really loose very large gravel that was laid down recently. But if they had a better head of steam they probably would of made it.

If you like the truck and it will suit your needs now go for it it's your $$$ then you could always look for another 4x4 for later and be really picky in your choosing of one and take your time.

It's not only the 4x4 conversion, you can't add a lift and do other things to make it capable off road as effectively in the 5 lug. If you get the 5 lug you have to be prepared to drive it as it is for the most part.

If you got a super basic regular cab 6 lug 2WD you could do a lot more with it down the road should you want to upgrade the capability.

Just trying to make sure you understand the difference between the 5 lug 2WD and 6 lug 2WD, that's all.

If you like that one I hope you will buy it and enjoy it!

I know tc makes an LT kit for the 5 lug, but all that considered I think you would be sacrificing a lot to either modify or work around just to get the 5 lug solid like the above stated. Not saying it’s not possible, but I would get a 6 lug at a minimum and maybe even a 4x4 unless you found a prerunner for a real steal. Many builds where this contemplation takes place, many seem to wish they had just gotten what they wanted from the get go unless you are the guy who does a lot of swaps and can do it on your own for the cheap.

Just a heads up, the picture you posted is a 2005-2010 year model. The grille changed to a honeycomb style in 2011 and then the front end got an update for 2012-2015 models. Just want to make sure whoever is selling it to you isnt trying to lie to you about the year model. Great little trucks nonetheless, but if it was me, id wait and get a prerunner so that you have more options to upgrade it later on suspension wise. Theres not a whole lot available for the 5 lug trucks

ovrlndkull thanks for the simplistic distinctions,
rjbiii I glad you pointed out the flaw in my pic here is the real truck since the photo I posted was from a google search that I thought was close enough

If you plan on off roading get a 4wd, if you’ve no experience doing very involved swaps on vehicles I’d say wait for a 4x4. You’d just regret the purchase imo. Also that price seems high at least in my area, I paid 19k for a 2013 4x4 regular cab with 28k miles 1.5 years ago
