What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

They were meant for hard caps. When offroading and you are uneven, hard cap doesn't flex with the bed as much so it gets misaligned and can't open the tailgate when on uneven ground. They also would help if you have roof top tent like the quote above, not so much for the weight, but for the same concept as hard caps. I am just having bed bars fabricated into the bed to act as stiffeners AND bars to hold my tent.

Yes, but that is some heavy gear... I had around 400 lbs on my tailgate before (people standing on it), and it didn't even bend. If you are really nervous about it, just upgrade the line/cable. Like I said though, more than 400 lbs is a lot of weight for gears and on top of that, it'll probably bend before completely breaking so you can use an end cap reinforcement like this:

With me and the quad I’ve got about 700 lbs riding up the ramps/tailgate but I don’t know the physics and math of where all the pressure is going. Probably nervous for nothing

The tailgate is weakest in the middle. With the quad, all the weight is on the outside and you never have all that weight on there at one time.

 

Oh it's for a quad, ya you are good. Like the above post says, middle is weak so I thought when you said gears, you were talking about it sitting on the middle of the tail gate which is why I said that's some heavy gears.

 

What kind of hood is that? Connected to air filter or faux scoop?

 

I'm pretty sure that's the stock Sport Hood scoop.
