I have a 07 Tacoma and was wondering what the wire that ends in a connector in the tailgate is for? Backup camera in a 2007?

Did you get a picture of the wire/connector? I have had my tailgate opened up but don’t remember seeing a wire/connector in there.

I guess I could take a picture. I just seen the wire coming out the bottom of the tail gate so I opened it up and it dead ended inside with a connector up towards the opening latch. I have no idea why an 07 would have this wire? Didn't think they had cameras in that year?

If you tailgate handle has a camera in it the wires coming out of the bottom of the gate and through the rear bed seal are for the back up camera. I hope this was helpful.

This particular question is actually easy to answer without pics. The only wires toyota ran to the tailgate were camera wires. If there is not a camera in the handle then it’s wired for it it just didn’t have the add on option. For instance some vehicles come without fog lights but the wires are still behind the bumper. Keeps them from manufacturing 30 different wire harness for the many different options. Hope this helps

I’m wondering if it’s a replacement tailgate. Did you buy the truck new? Does it plug into the truck after exiting the tailgate. If it does you may be prewired all the way to the mirror. I do not have any wires between the tailgate and the bed on my 07. I searched an online OEM parts store for 07 rearview mirror and no backup camera display is offered but in 08 it is available. I don’t think I have an empty plug under the rear bumper so I’m pretty sure mine isn’t prewired. Helpful?

That's what I was wondering being it's an 07? Different tailgate? It looked as though the wire ran into the wire harness underneath the rear of the truck. Does this camera wire go to the rear view mirror then? Maybe this 07 was made close to 08? I have an aftermarket stereo that has a camera option so I m looking into how to install the camera? I have the pop lock tailgate handle on this as well. I just purchased the truck in December and am learning what i can from reading about it.

You're going to need a high clearance plate bumper with swing outs and a camera relocation bracket. It's the only way to make it work.

I help tons on this site, can't say I've seen many people complain about lack of help. It's probably one the best forums I've been part of.

I don't even own a Tacoma currently but I lend my buckets of experience to those in need.

Maybe it's your attitude. About 16hrs before a complaint, and half of that people were likely sleeping. There are plenty of threads with manual pages, plenty of parts diagrams, and plenty of help(especially compared to other Tacoma forums).

The thing is that everyone can chime in with their useless comments, but can't try to answer a simple forum related question. I did try a search and couldn't find my answer? Well I'm done now, and will find my answers elsewhere as I can see that some people on this forum would rather not help but criticize. No big deal, plenty of other places too find information.
