No it's not, we see it everyday.

And why not take the 10K and stick it in your pocket for gas?

In all seriousness, it's obviously not cost effective. But I don't need a full size truck so it's wasted capacity for me. I don't have anywhere to park or use it. I wish my Taco was smaller even. Diesel to me is just for range and a D-4D Tacoma gets in the neighborhood of 25 MPG all the time. Imagine having 400 miles in low range around 500 on the highway. Wicked.

I can't really say much bad about gm or Toyota. I have an 08 Silverado 4x4 and a 09 Tacoma 4x4. I bought the Silverado brand new and now it has 165k miles and it's only ever gotten gas and oils. I only owned the Tacoma almost a year (I had a 95.5 for about 10 years prior to this one) so not a ton of issues with it (U-Joints, saggy ass rear springs, throw out bearing) its now got 104k on it. All told I'd say both are great but the Silverado would win out in reliability, but I choose the Tacoma to drive unless I need to haul more than 2 people.

There is no way it'll cost you 10k to go back to stock. Not even close. Like, at all.

Ha ha Just saying. My 95 was my favorite truck I've ever owned, and I'd have taken it with me to my grave but somehow I outlasted it. That thing had 256k on it, it needed a valve job, total suspension rebuild, transmission..... the list went on and on. I've just been pretty lucky with reliability and my trucks.

I don't see why he would, he speaks the truth. My Chevys I had required less to get to 50k then both my Toyota trucks '12 Tacoma and '17 Tundra so I cannot jump on that bandwagon of Toyota reliability unfortunately. Heck Tomorrow my 22k mile 1 year old Tundra has to go in and have the motor pulled to reseal the cam towers..just crazy.

What Toyota does do well is the vehicles fit and finish is much better and they stay tighter over the life of the vehicle. My 2012 Tacoma now has 74k on it and it doesn't have a single rattle. My Chevy's I had would rattle at about year 2, so I have to give it to Toyota on that one. But I would rather trade costly repairs for a few rattles...Tacoma AIR valve at 50k...Tundra cam towers at 22k.

My aunt just traded in her 2015 Tacoma on a 2018 Colorado and loves it, mileage is good, power is great and it tows much better. Time will tell if its better then her taco, but her march to 33k with the Taco also required issues to be fixed as well...so it was not problem free either.

If I had another 2nd gen Tacoma I'd like that. Would make for a good overland style build

Unless you want to say "I have a Diesel" its not worth it. I used to have Diesel VW rabbits, when fuel was cheap and I was getting 50 mpg, that was for 78 - 81 models, and I was driving 100 miles r/t a day to work. Diesels now do not get the mileage they used to and your gas engines are probably more efficient and get better or as good mileage. Diesel is now $3/gal. I had a 99 Dodge with Cummins in it, and kept it for 9 years, got about 20 mpg, sounded real cool, had power to pull a house, but body rusted and it was time to get rid of it. I drive a 2012 Tacoma and am very happy with it, good luck with your decision

Thanks, here she is as she sits now. I've decided against the Colorado I think. Definitely put too much blood sweat and tears into the Tacoma to give it up for a few extra MPGs.

I know of at least 10 guys that have 100K all the way up to 400+K miles on there Silverado’s and/or SUVs The 99-06 were some tough ass vehicles. One guy has totaled it multiple times and still runs the piss out of it. From 07 till now are all shotty and lots of turds being made now. Government ran General Motors will never be the same.
