What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I have a 6cyl manual.

 

I think you'd still need the 03075 thermo. But I'm not a parts guy. Just double check the part # with your local dealer.

In my conversations with Aircabinman... apperantly there were multiple kits sent out with the wrong thermostat.

And for the record... he's being very good about making it right.

 

Hopefully manual and auto don't make a difference because I have the 03075

 

I think you're good. For your piece of mind... the thermostat that he sent was not just a little wrong... it would have never worked in my truck. WAY too small. Probably for a completely different vehicle.

 

Shops will hot tank it too which removes gunk from all over the block, inside the oil passages. If you find a good shop they'll even remove the internal galley plugs and such.

 

Got to test out the new 4.56's for the first time on the highway, and over the mountains from the Western Slope to the Front Range today. I only down shifted to 3rd gear once (less than two minutes) going east over Vail Pass. I've never run Vail Pass in mostly fourth and fifth gear in 20 years of driving Toyota trucks! The trade of top end for torque was totally worth it, Gears may be the best mod EVER! I'm looking forward to getting the front broken in, and seeing how they do on the trail this spring!

 

Installed my Ultragauge today and went for a 30 minute drive. Looking at the coolant temp I saw it reach 208.6 Degrees. Seems kind of high to me, does this seem normal, or could it be a problem in my coolant system?

 

Thermostat at 12 oclock instead of 6 oclock

 

mine is around 210 i plan to flush my cooling system

 

Few simple mods over the last couple weeks. Took the topper off for the first time in 5 years. Changed out console lights to new blue LEDs.

 

Finished my trailer today, can’t wait to take it out and test it over spring break next week

 

Got the scanguage, and I tried to input the Xgauge thingy for AFR. Didnt work.

 

Are those gunmetal SCS? Ray 10?

Added a couple of pieces of fanciness to the truck after I replaced the timing belt / water pump / radiator / did a coolant system flush / and changed the oil this weekend.

if you get new pistons it's good to give to a shop so they can cross hatch the hone to match the rings.

Hell not. That is way too far back. You only need to cut like 1-1.5'' off.

Id just cut them off and do it right. Slap your friend and make him do it right.

Gears are a super underrated mod.

 

Any idea how much honing the 5VZ would run?

 

So I have done some thinking and the shop doing the pinion seal seems to think that it keeps going bad because of the driveshaft angle. Should I use a spacer on the carrier bearing once I get that back from them to hopefully help reduce the angle? If so how thick of a spacer should I get?
