Should be a good time. I definitely should have grown up in the 80s

My wife and I were born in the 80s, but she wishes she was a teenager, early 20s during the start of the 80s, she’s all about the big hair bands and styles back then.

I would have had the time of my life growing up in the 80s.

I've used them for years and they work good. I have a fair amount here in various configurations from a previous job. For no real reason I tend to use standard terminals with the epoxy type heat shrink over the crimped area.
Honestly it's all overkill for under the hood stuff. Couple of my terminals attached to a fuse block are just standard crimped terminals.

Thanks, I’ll have to give Josh a call. I’ll be running without the extra leaf so it might be a little less firm. I only have 100lbs or so in back with cooler, tools, etc. when off-roading.

I’m thought the Icons were made for the 3rd gens so without the extra leaf they should be at 1.875" at least that’s what I’m hoping. Besides the street cred I’m also hoping they ride better without the squeaking Dakar’s are known for. If that’s the case I think the extra $150 would be worth it.

Yeah probably overkill, I just wanna make it look nice...

At this point I've got the hardest stuff out of the way, fighting that firewall grommet was a bitch and my fingertips are all torn to shreds from trying to seat it. It's time for my zen moments of arranging wires into neat little arrays.

These say 05-up but the picture is of a 3rd gen soooo :notsure:

I didn't even think about the squeaking. I guess if my ultimate goal is daily driver livability then Icons should be my move.

I know they are interchangeable. I just thought the specs are for the 3rd gens?

We have 3 different people all on different pages.

I honestly don't know if the specs are for 3rd gens or 2nd gens. The fact that it says 05-Up generally means that it was designed for the 2nd gen and companies don't always update their spec sheets, but that could be an entirely erroneous assumption.

Oh hey @Mike330R you never stopped by to get that gas cap holder.

Looks like Icons measurements were taken on a 2016 4WD DCLB TACOMA so they should lift a DCSB more than 1.875” on Option 1

Is there a cure for the mod bug?

I am still dealing with getting the title to the new bike (long story, my brother, whatever, I will get it soon enough), so I can't register the bike and go riding. So it is sitting on the lift table in my garage. Got all his old stickers off the cases, replaced a broken handle on one of them. Fixed the wiring going to the battery for accessories, it wasn't bad, everything work, just ugly and messy. I cleaned and lubed the chain... it needs a new chain and rear sprocket. So I am thinking of going down a tooth in the front and up in the rear (the F800GS stock setup, which has the same motor as this 650GS). That is suppose to give more control in 1st and 6th more usable.

Making a list of small things I want to do to it, things to buy. Wifey doesn't love the white hand guards, so I need to paint them. She can ride this bike too, so it's not MY bike, it's OURS. Which means I have to run cosmetic decisions by her first.

Seeing this is my first time wrenching on this bike, I am going to take it to the shop for a full service, let them give me the full rundown and immediate to future needs. I have a great BMW shop that breaks down what they think only a certified mechanic should do and what they think I can do myself. My brother really took care of this bike until about a year ago, since then he hasn't had the time to ride or the money to spend on it, so it mostly got shuffled around.

It has knobies on it, so I need to buy new tires... this dilemma isn't much different than our trucks... do I go for a pure street/touring tires or do I get 80/20 street/trail tires. Something that will be smooth on the road and allow me to play in the dirt a little. My brother went with two sets of tires, and switched them out all the time, I don't want to get into that. I have limited dirt bike time under me, so I will stay mainly on fire roads and established trails, so I don't need the aggressive dirt tires.

For those keeping up on my brother. He did ditch his 1972 27’ POS trailer for a cab over camper. He got it $800.

I really hope this was a better buy than his trailer, but I am not making bets on it.

This is the only picture I have gotten from him so far.

Was watching some Rodney Dangerfield movies and stand-up comedy tonight. Makes me really forget how funny that guy was.

And an ACLB Prerunner even higher, I think. Crap. So it would probably be over 2"... not that I would mind too much but I want to make sure I end up with the right length of shock and all that, and avoid having to worry about extended brake lines.
