Normally my weapon is on my person except when I go in places that prohibit conceal carry and when
I go to work I leave it in the truck. I've been using Console Vault for 3 years with zero complaints.
I no longer worry about the smash and grab punk stealing my firearm. If they want it they'll need to
    take the truck.

I have the same console. Right now it is just open with no dividers.

But thanks to your picture, it will shamelessly stealing your set up.
    Thanks for posting the pic.

Btw, only use the console when I am forced to remove my pistol so I can enter the "gun free fish barrel".....

I had the Salex console organizer before I got the safe. Just trimmed one of the dividers on each end till it fit snug. Keeps all my other things in the console from moving around and makes it easy to take the gun in and out. Also a good place to clip my flashlight and knife

For those of you with barrel style locks that are securing your firearm, how secure are the barrels and has anyone ever tested if they can be picked? I don't care if they cannot be drilled into and broken, I am wondering if there are any tests showing just how secure their barrel locks are.

When I was a teenager changing oil at the local mechanic's shop I had an old dude drop off his truck with a pistol in the holster like that. Just walked off. I told him that wasn't smart when he came back and he yelled at me.

    IMO
that kind of mount is not and could never be properly secure. I think it's irresponsible. You never forget anything in your car for a few hours when you park it?

I'll be the last to throw stones - I spent a solid ten minutes this morning looking for the glasses I was wearing! I can't depend on my memory!

Our M-16s in Vietnam were only .227 and quite effective. It's the load that's important.

    Don't you mean .223 or 5.56x45. And you carried a M-16?

For the center console you can get some of the gun case style thick foam and cut it to fit snuggly in your truck, then die cut it for your specific pistol for a custom layout you choose. They might sell the pick and pull foam and local gun shop or Amazon to save cutting issues.

A Hornady rapid safe 2600 will fit (sideways, opening toward the right side) in front of the front seat mounted to a Bracketeer generic bracket. It'll fit a 1911 Officer's model but not a full size. I added an upside down wall coat hook filed down in the lower left corner; the barrel goes over the coat hook and keeps the pistol from falling to the floor when the safe is opened, the foam in the safe I siliconed in place, it keeps the gun from moving and the "coat hook" doesn't damage the barrel.
Not perfect I know, but about the fastest way to legally grab a pistol from the drivers seat; no fumbling with combinations or keys. A full mag is held under the lip on the drivers side door with a couple magnets screwed up into the door.
Here in the peoples republic of Kali there's specific text that prohibits using the "utility or glove compartment" as the required "locked container", so those are a no go.
I also have one of those Tuffy locked compartments behind the rear seat, but in order to get to it you'd have to get in the back seat, fold the drivers side rear back down, then get the key to open that compartment.
I wouldn't mind if some truck manufacturers started leaving an area in the center console to mount something like a Titan pistol safe with the mag holder on the outside. It's sort of large, but if it could be integrated into the design from the beginning...

Big ones are King suspension, SSO bumper w/winch, Pelfreybuilt sliders.
Could you show some pictures of your set up? I'm also in CA and trying to find a work around for that very clause.

I have had a Locker Down console safe for a while. Fantastic for many reasons. Valet parking. Airport parking. Storing jewlery at the beach.... Leaving an unsecured gun in a car is just irresponsible.
